From Rodarte’s big return to The Blonds x Disney Villains, meet my picks for the most anticipated NYFW shows in the September 2018 season.
Hi there, dreamers! I’m hoping you had a FABULOUS Labor Day weekend! In my world, I enjoyed some nice family time celebrating my mom’s birthday and then spent Labor Day itself lounging around binge watching Shameless on Netflix. (Seriously, I’m addicted. Why did no one tell me how fun that show is???)
On my mind this week is of course the kick-off of New York Fashion Week!
The festivities begin Wednesday night with Tom Ford’s latest runway show in NYC and from there it’s going to get a little wild.
First off, I have to make the bittersweet announcement that I’m not going to be attending the shows this season. There’s a major work event that’s keeping me from jetting off to the Big Apple – making each invite that lands its way in my inbox feel a bit like a punch to the gut. *sigh* Well, until they invent a way to be in two places at once I’m going to have to enjoy the festivities from afar.
No worries though, because there is A LOT I am excited to see at NYFW this season and not physically being there in person will in no way slow down my excitement.
(In fact, there’s a good chance I might actually get to cover the shows MORE than usual – given that I won’t be racing back and forth across NYC in between shows all day with monster blisters on my feet. #Ouch)
Looking ahead to all the designer fashion coming our way – I rounded up a list of my MOST anticipated NYFW shows this season. Of course I’m looking forward to basically everything that’s going to be going down over the next 10 days in NYC….but these are the shows most grabbing my attention at the moment.
My Most Anticipated NYFW Shows of Sept. 2018
Tom Ford’s Kick-Off
The festivities of New York Fashion Week kick-off Wednesday night with Tom Ford’s latest runway collection. Tom of course ALWAYS brings out the drama on the runway and his shows deliver an A-list audience of Hollywood actresses and super models. There will definitely be a lot to see during his latest Big Apple show at 8 pm.
The Blonds x Disney Villains
If you’ve caught any of my coverage of The Blonds at NYFW before, you’ll know I’m a big fan of the theatrics of their runway shows and extravagantly flashy collections. This season, The Blonds is releasing a Disney Villain inspired collection and I my level of excitement is off the charts! Like most gals, I’m a big fan of Disney…but its always the villains that most catch my interest. (Hello, Maleficent is my idol.) I absolutely cannot wait for what’s sure to be an over-the-top display of this collection.
The show will be on Friday, September 7 around 9:30 pm and you can bet I’ll be checking repeatedly for updates.
Look back at The Blonds’ dramatic February 2018 runway show, here.
Rodarte’s Return to NYFW
If you’ve been looking at the New York Fashion Week schedule the last few seasons, you may have noticed the absence of Rodarte as they have been showing in Europe. Well, in September 2018 they’re returning to NYC to show their Spring 2019 collection and I for one am PUMPED. The New York schedule has felt lonely without sister designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy.
Look for Rodarte to make their big return on Sunday, September 9th at 6 pm.
Michael Costello
Another of my most anticipated shows of NYFW is Michael Costello – who has also been a bit absent on the schedule of late. Costello always brings a lot of next level glamour to the runway and I basically wanted to curl into a ball and cry when I had to turn down my invitation to his Friday evening show at 5 pm.
If you’re not familiar with his designs, check out my review of the Michael Costello Spring 2016 collection here that took my breath away in person.
The Next Chapter from Dan Liu
One of my most favorite shows I attended at New York Fashion Week in February 2018 was Dan Liu’s spy-inspired Spring 2018 runway show. The collection was too cool with models adorned in dramatic shades, jacquard overcoats and a poppy red lip. Needless to say, I became a fan and I’m ready to see where things go for the Spring 2019 collection!
The next chapter from Dan Liu will hit the runway on Tuesday, September 11.
Carolina Herrera’s First Carolina-Herrera-Less Collection
In February 2018, Carolina Herrera stepped down as the creative director of her namesake brand and appointed Wes Gordon in her place. It was a sad day in the fashion world to see Carolina slip into a less intensive roll to spend more time in her family – but the fashion world is eagerly awaiting Gordon’s debut collection for the House of Herrera on Monday, September 10. How well will Gordon carry the torch for Herrera in her place? Stay tuned!
The Latest in Feminine Chic from Lela Rose
These days, Lela Rose is KILLING it at NYFW with ultra chic attire that’s oh so feminine and classic. For each collection’s unveiling, she also always has something fun up her sleeve from partnering with influences to model the designs, to lavish luncheons and even a garden party.
On Monday, September 10 we’ll get to see what Lela Rose has hanging up her sleeve this season. Till then, take a look back at her gorgeous Spring 2018 runway, here.
Next Level Glamour at Oscar de la Renta
With Monse masterminds Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia at the reigns, Oscar de la Renta continues to be on my mind for the NYFW season ahead. Ever since their February 2017 debut, Kim and Garcia have been releasing slam-dunk collection after collection for ODLR. And so it’s no mistake that they land themselves a spot on my list of most anticipated NYFW shows for September 2018.
Look forward to seeing the new Spring 2019 Oscar de la Renta collection on Tuesday, September 11. Till then, glimpse back at the Monse debut for ODLR here.
Peak Glamour from Brandon Maxwell
No doubt, Brandon Maxwell is one of the most anticipated NYFW shows on just about every fashionista’s list. He designs with such drama and flare in a way that effortlessly blends traditional with the contemporary. Add to that his bestie Lady Gaga debuting major film A Star is Born in October and I’m desperate for a clue or two at what some of her red carpet looks might look like (because you just KNOW he’s bound to design something for Queen Gaga).
Brandon Maxwell will be unveiling his Spring 2019 collection on Saturday, September 8 at 6 pm.
What Are YOUR Most Anticipated NYFW Shows?
Obviously there will be WAY more to see at New York Fashion week this season than the most anticipated shows I mentioned above. Heavy hitters Jason Wu, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Prabal Gurung and many more will be returning to NYFW to unveil their Spring 2019 collections this month and you better believe I’ll be checking Vogue Runway every hour for the latest updates.
As I prepare to cover all of the best New York Fashion Week has to bring this season, definitely let me know if there’s one collection in particular you’re looking forward to that you’d like to see on Dream in Lace. To review the full schedule, click here.
And – of course – be sure to follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest where I’ll be sharing fashion goodness around the clock! Buckle in dreamers, it’s going to be a thrilling (and fashionable) ride!
