It’s Valentine’s Day! What better time to celebrate the romantic beauty that is the Oscar de la Renta Monse Debut at NYFW. Prepare to have your mind blown by perfection!
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, let’s take a moment to gush over our longtime love Oscar de la Renta and the start of a new chapter for one of fashion’s most beloved houses.
When the news dropped that Peter Copping was stepping down at Oscar after just a handful of seasons, the big question was who would take his place. The loss of Oscar de la Renta himself was substantial, leaving behind some mighty big shoes that perhaps Copping never felt comfortable in. Just who would rise to lead the house into the future? The answer: Monse masterminds Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, who both both share experience working with Oscar de la Renta himself and learning his vision of modern femininity.
Double Feature: The Oscar de la Renta Monse Debut
Since September, we’ve been waiting with great anticipation for the Monse debut at Oscar de la Renta and this week were gifted a real treat with a joint fashion show at New York Fashion Week.
No doubt, the Oscar de la Renta Monse debut was everything we hoped for – and maybe more. Ushering in a new era, these two fashion worlds collided at Skylight Clarkson Square in Chelsea. First, Fernando and Laura unveiled a colorful and sparkling Monse Fall 2017 collection – followed by a luxurious Oscar de la Renta debut that quite frankly has me smitten. From their past experience at ODLR, both Fernando and Laura are very familiar with the signature framework of the house and they designed a collection that reignites a passion for Oscar de la Renta.
Cheerful Romanticism
For the Fall 2017 collection, Laura and Fernando focused their debut at Oscar de la Renta with crisp optimism and undeniable glamour. Shimmering silk lame, cashmere silk, sequins and red poppy jacquard gowns and jumpsuits floated down the runway with a sweeping romantic effect, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
New York Fashion Week on the whole has featured so many militant and 90’s grunge-inspired looks this season, so to kickback with a collection that focuses on romance and elegance satisfies the sweet tooth of classic fashion lovers.
Classic Polish Meets Modern Prints
Among my favorite looks of the Oscar de la Renta Monse debut collection are the use of prints! Traditional, crisp silhouettes are redefined with vibrant graphic and floral prints. Abstract pant and jumpsuits are accompanied with sharp monochrome florals. It’s a precise way of styling that puts a real contemporary feel on the classics we all know and love.
A Triumphant Debut, Indeed
Certainly, I don’t think anyone can take in this collection and not see it for the phenomenal debut it truly was. Suddenly, Oscar de la Renta is back at the forefront of fashion week and I cannot wait to see where Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia direct ODLR in the future. This collection inspires so much optimism in a tumultuous time in fashion, where it seems designers are shifting around more than ever. I’m hopeful this is the start of a long-term relationship with many many more brilliant collections to come!
As always, thank you so very much for reading and I wish you a very happy Valentine’s Day!
Thank you to Oscar de la Renta for kindly providing these beautiful runway images.
