Daniel Roseberry’s Schiaparelli Fall 2022 couture collection leans into creativity and self-expression while providing a glamorous escape.

As I sit currently recovering from a painful spine operation, I can’t tell you what a delight it is to find a mental reprieve in haute couture.

The artistry of fashion is something we often point out as a major draw but I wager it also offers a healthy heap of escapism. It’s nice to set the worries of the world and whatever personal struggles you’re experiencing aside. To lean into creations that are beautiful, imaginative and full of creativity. At times fashion can also seem like a light at the end of the tunnel. It can inspire and it can rejuvenate at moments of exhaustion.

Feeling extremely grateful for the ability to escape into fashion at the moment, there really couldn’t be a better time for the Schiaparelli Fall 2022 couture collection to arrive. Daniel Roseberry has proven himself to be a true master of his craft since taking the reins as creative director for the legacy house in 2019 and his designs jump to the top of my must-see list every season. In many ways, I feel like Roseberry’s talent and vision is in the company of greats like Alexander McQueen, Christian LaCroix and Thierry Mugler. It’s a pleasure watching the fruits of his work and I can already see future museum exhibitions erected in his honor!

As for the Schiaparelli Fall 2022 couture collection itself, we see Roseberry ditch the gilded structural 24K gold pieces that have dominated the last few seasons.

Satin
Lace
Pearls
3D floral embellishments.

The designs invoke a spirit of decadence and Old Hollywood glamour that is oh so satisfying in an era where slogans and streetwear reign supreme. The Schiaparelli Fall 2022 couture collection also makes a strong case for normalizing the chapeau as the perfect cherry on top of your ensemble. (Something I 100% support!)

“I always talk about trying to achieve the state of creative innocence – of fighting to stay close to that person who fell in love with fashion and its possibilities, of not succumbing to cynicism or world-weariness,” Roseberry writes in his Schiaparelli Fall 2022 couture design notes. “I hope that spirit comes through in this collection. I hope that people who see it can tell what fun the team and I had making it.”

He continues, “I hope the joy we felt, of creating things, of getting to make beautiful objects that people will always remember, is evident in every coat, dress, and accessory.”
