To soften the blow that we’re at the start of another work week, MTV’s 2015 Video Music Awards showcased some seriously interesting fashion this year. With Miley Cyrus as the host, Jeremy Scott redesigning the moon man, and Justin Beiber delivering his first live performance in what feels like forever — things were going down! But more importantly, how did everyone look?
Vine Superstar Arielle Vandenberg
If you don’t know who Arielle is, she’s a social media maven. Her hilarious Vine videos and Snapchat stories have had me laughing for a couple years now, and seeing her off my iPhone screen and on the VMA red carpet was exciting! Also exciting, seeing her in one of my most favorite Cushnie et Ocs creations, ever.
Cara Delevingne Sees Stars
Everyone’s favorite model-turned-movie star Cara Delevingne showed up in this star-studded Saint Laurent number. Somehow I feel like Cara wears St. Laurent better than the average bear. She takes jazzed up flirty numbers like this, and makes them feel relaxed and cool. Oh Cara, the ultimate cool girl.
FKA Twigs Enchants
I may have only heard FKA Twigs music a handful of times, but girlfriend has been majorly snatched up by the high fashion world as a new it-girl. It’s like she went from being an unknown, to rubbing elbows with fashion’s elite literally overnight. Here she stuns in a black Atelier Versace number, with hair and makeup goals for days. I’m only sad she didn’t bring RPats with her, because I am always down for a Robert Pattinson sighting.
Jeremy Scott Rocks a Television Prompter
After redesigning the moon man award and the VMA’s ‘red’ carpet, and Jeremy Scott celebrated his big night in true colorful fashion. (Honestly, would you expect any less?) Given that the VMA’s are traditionally fun and somewhat kooky event, I find this technicolor suit dead-on perfection.
Justin Bieber Takes First Step in a Comeback?
I haven’t kept up on the endless drama surrounding Justin Beiber, but I do give him props for reemerging in this head to toe look from Saint Laurent. How to silence people on judging your life choices? Show up looking great. In this case, I have to say the Beibs nailed it.
Kat Graham Steps Out of Mystic Falls and Into Versace!
I think we’re all ready for The Vampire Diaries to go off the air at this point, and so my heart does goes out to Kat Graham for having to damper her musical ambitions for that floundering TV show. At the very least, though, Kat does manage to show up at events like the VMAs and Grammy’s looking pretty darn fabulous. Girl knows how to work the red carpet.
This sparkling, black number by Georges Chakra and is pretty much awesome. Of all the looks on the VMA red carpet, I vote THIS as the one I most want to steal and keep for myself. You can never go wrong with a great little black dress.
Miley Makes Scene
We all knew Miley’s fashion would be a big topic of discussion at this year’s VMAs, and for her red carpet look – Miley did not disappoint. In custom Atelier Versace, she kicked off the night with a bang! Maybe it’s just the hair, but I’m catching major Madonna vibes from this one.
Rita Ora in Vera Wang
Rita Ora has a knack for showing up overdressed at these MTV events, but I am absolutely not complaining. Praise her for always being showy, and never understated. Bless her!
Nicki Minaj Goes JLo
Usually JLo is at these things, but in her absence – Nicki Minaj really stepped up to the plate.
Perhaps the best thing of the night all together, was Miley Cyrus’s closing performance! Has anyone else been basically on 24/7 new music watch from that girl? Or, am I alone? (Please tell me I’m not!) There’s something so captivating about her voice. Say what you will about her on and off stage antics, but girl can s-i-n-g!
In case you missed it, definitely look over my Worst Dressed List of the night to see even more looks from the VMA red carpet. There were quite a few doozies. And, mark your calendars for the next big award show on September 20th. I’ll be live-tweeting Primetime Emmy’s red carpet and show. Be sure to join in the fun and follow me on Twitter.
