The 2015 Grammy Awards took place this weekend and *woah* was the red carpet STOCKED with big stars! Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga AND Madonna were all in attendance. And, as if that’s not enough to get you going…Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and a slew of other musically talented gems were there as well. Seriously, I practically broke a sweat during the red carpet! Fear not, I stayed nicely hydrated and recruited James Marsden and Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses to accompany me while digging through the fashions and narrowing down the Best and Worst Dressed. And boy did I need their company, as the Grammy red carpet felt like 127 Dresses!
Going into the Grammy Awards, I had high hopes for Gwen Stefani and Taylor Swift, and was hoping for some major Atelier Versace and Alexandre Vauthier moments. Lucky for me, all of the above managed to pull through! There were also a few fun surprises that I did not see coming…that might surprise you as well. All in all, this was one fun red carpet and while I’m still on a sugar high from pre-Valentine’s Day Candy, let’s dissect the Best Dressed of the night.
I present my picks for 10 Best Dressed of the 2015 Grammy Awards!
Giuliana Rancic in Bouchra Jarrar
Woah! Guliana Rancic? Kelly, are you losing it? No! Well, kind of. Surprisingly I really LOVED Guliana Rancic’s black Bouchra Jarrar pantsuit. It was fresh, sexy, had a bit of edge and was perfect for the occasion. Guliana proved that the red carpet interviewer can have some style too!
Gwen Stefani in Atelier Versace
I fell in love at first sight when this sexy Versace sashayed down the couture runways in Paris last month. To see it find its way to Gwen Stefani for the Grammy’s felt like a major win! As discussed last week, Gwen was my original style icon (here) and I’m always pulling for my girl. While I do wish Gwen went with a colored lipstick to add a little pop (seriously!), this was spot-on awesome.
Gwen Stefani in Atelier Versace
Woah, what? Gwen in Atelier Versace again? Yes and yes! Another great thing about the Grammys are the changes for performances, and last night Gwen slipped into to vampy red couture for her duet with Maroon 5. What can I say, I love a lady in red…and I’m thrilled she found some red lipstick to accompany the dress. Gwen was playing some major game last night guys!
Iggy Azalea in custom Armani Prive
Dreamers, I ask you to avert your eyes to look at Iggy only from the neck down! While I’m not sure the Crown Braid is a ‘Best’, I’m more than certain the dress is a slam dunk! Iggy has a history of picking great dresses that fit horribly, but last night she got it right. Armani made this just for her, meaning the fit was flawless…finally!
Jane Fonda in Balmain
May I remind you, Jane Fonda is currently 77 years old. 77 years old and BANGIN’!
Madonna in custom Givenchy
I also remind you that Madonna is 56 years old. 56 years old and still kicking some serious butt! Her red carpet Givenchy confused me (here), but for her performance look was phenomenal. It’s like a matador got a makeover by the Moulin Rouge!
Miley Cyrus in Alexandre Vauthier
Queue my favorite SS15 Alexandre Vauthier couture on one of my red carpet fav: Miley Cyrus! *round of applause* Say what you will about Miley, but she knows how to turn it on at the right moment. Very few would be able to pull off this slinky Vauthier, but she literally glows.
Nicki Minaj in Tom Ford
Tom Ford has been notably absent from the red carpet this season, but had two major appearance last night. First, Julianne Moore collected her latest award wearing red Tom Ford at the BAFTAs. Second, Nicki Minaj turned up at the Grammys looking uber sexy, yet still sophisticated in this slinky number with a deep plunging neckline. The fringe was a touchy subject on Twitter, but where some thought it ruined the dress I found it brought the dress to life!
Rita Ora in custom Prada
Rita Ora’s arrival at the Grammys escaped my notice, so stumbling upon her in this custom Prada felt like Christmas! Rita’s a bold gal and her fashion goes to either really great or really bad extremes. Lucky for us, she was on the ‘great’ side of the spectrum in shimmering metallic. If this is a marketing ploy to make me want to see 50 Shades of Grey, I have to admit it’s kind of working 😉
Taylor Swift in Elie Saab
To me, this was MAJOR. Perhaps not on everyone, but on Taylor Swift (who has a long history of shimmery nudes and champagnes), this was a bold statement. Seeing TayTay really embrace color, all the way down to the shoes, was an unexpected twist. One of my favorite surprises of the night!
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for award season’s grand finale: the Academy Awards! I’ll be live-tweeting the red carpet on February 22nd and you’re invited to join in on the fun. The Oscars are the mother of all award shows, and with style superstars Cate Blanchett, Lupita Nyong’o and Julianne Moore all destined to attend…it’s going to be another big red carpet!
But, for now…I KNOW you want to browse through the WORST looks of last night’s Grammy Awards. Here’s my Worst Dressed List, featuring a Kardashian and a lady wearing recyclables. Seriously.
