It’s official: awards season has kicked off! Last week’s Governors Awards featured all the leading ladies in their red carpet best, kicking things off with a bang – and a lot of color! Of course, I can’t help but feel crushed heading into awards season without the timeless Joan Rivers voicing her opinions. It just won’t be the same without her Fashion Police specials. Hats off to Joan, may she be praising and cursing red carpet fashion from above!
In the last week, I myself have been gearing up for awards season by hitting the local cinema. Gone Girl and Interstellar were intensely gripping, and packed with incredible performances (HELLO! Rosamund Pike and Matthew McConaughey!). Maps to the Stars originally beckoned to me because of that standard crush on Robert Pattinson, but Julianne Moore really stole the show. I’m trying to build up the nerve to see Fury soon – I think I’ll need snacks. Needless to say: it’s movie time people!
The color of the seasons first red carpet: PINK!
Michelle Monaghan was an absolute vision in this J. Mendel Spring 2015 gown, which is perhaps my favorite of the night. She’s statuesque and perfectly prim. Then there’s an Elle Woods throwback from Reese Witherspoon who kept things simple in this hot pink Ralph Lauren cocktail dress. It’s nice, albeit safe, but definitely in need of better shoes. Live a little Reese!
Then there’s Emily Blunt wearing Michael Kors, and looking absolutely insane – as in, insanely beautiful. Whoever manages Emily needs to start ramping it up with her schedule. She’s so beautiful and a good actress, that it seems criminal her talents are wasted on mediocre action films that you forget the second you walk out of the theater. I’d love to see her push it in a more edgy role.
My designer soul sister Nina Ricci had not one but TWO gowns making an appearance on the red carpet. Jessica Chastain wore a sweeping and romantic tiered dress while Keira Knightley opted for one of the beautifully embroidered gowns from Nina Ricci’s Spring 2015. Again, I take issue with the shoes with the gold sandals on Chastain, giving a bit of a Grecian look. But, head to toe I do love Kiera’s look!
While we’re on the subject, can we talk about how fantastic Jessica Chastain is in Intestellar? Sure, the logic of her role is a little bit questionable but she really managed to make a large impact in the limited amount of screen time. That is HUGE considering how much Interstellar is a feast for the eyes with highly intense moments battling for your attention basically every other minute. Seriously, I felt like I was going to have an anxiety attack!
Felicity Jones is newish on the scene, so I’m excited to see her style evolve over awards season. But for right now, I have to say her style is a bit dull.
Marion Cotillard wore predictable Dior, but at least it was fabulous Dior. She’s like a tiered red cupcake! Okay, probably not what she was going for but it’s quite striking and styled to a t.
Perhaps the biggest look of the night though came from THE Tilda Swinton rocking Schiaparelli and a seriously coiffed hair-do. Remember in Mean Girls when Gretchen Wieners hair was ‘full of secrets’? I think Tilda Swinton’s hair holds the biggest secrets of the universe! Seriously, that hair knows what happens when we die, where we came from, and the real truth behind Britney Spears and JT’s split. (Seriously. I still want to know!)
Then there’s Octavia Spencer who I love so much, it breaks my heart that she’s turned to the small screen with Red Band Society. I mean, can we say Zzzzz! At least she’s looking good while throwing her boost in popularity down the drain.
Are you as excited as I am for a killer awards season? With Julianne Moore, Angelina Jolie, and other fashion greats circulating the red carpet we are sure for some really intense red carpet fashion! Let’s all buckle up, grab some chocolate and enjoy the ride.

Keirra looked absolutely incredible, and it’s weird to say but I am so surprised by the influx of pink- not that they don’t look absolutely fantastic, it’s just not my FAV colour xx

Love the hot pink! Black and white gowns are beautiful, but the colorful gowns are the ones that stick with me. The slit on that pale pink maxi dress –> :O
