When I think about Andrew Gn, I naturally think of optimism.

His designs have a vibrancy that always seems to earn a spot on my list of seasonal favorites. The man is not afraid to go big on color. He is also never one to shy away from a great print! And so it comes as no surprise to me that the designer whose art fully embraces life wouldn’t accept defeat during the dark times of lockdown. Instead, he found a silver lining and paved a hopeful path forward.

“I strongly feel that, despite all the unknown, we have to move forward,” Gn shares in the notes for his Spring/Summer 2021 collection. “We have to project ourselves towards better times. We must go on.”

Designed in lockdown and over Zoom calls, the Andrew Gn Spring 2021 collection certainly makes a strong case for embracing the future – even when we aren’t sure that the future holds. Shaking off negativity, Gn sought to design a collection that tells a story of joy, pleasure and hope. To start, he created head-to-toe white looks that invoke white’s symbolic meaning of purity and cleansing. While uniform in color, these crisp looks play heavily with texture – incorporating silk, tweed and lace.

Unsurprisingly, the Andrew Gn Spring 2021 collection is also bursting with color. After all, that is one of his finest signatures.

“Times may be very grim, but surely we’ll be celebrating again someday,” Gn writes of his new designs. The SS21 collection features a cheerful peacock blue, tangerine and chartreuse. It also plays with two prints: abstract impressions of cherry blossoms and an iris print inspired by his mother’s Japanese kimonos. These are featured in a spectrum of looks, ranging from daytime blouses and dresses to full-length gowns and jumpsuits as evening wear.
