As we SPRING ahead, enjoy a full review of the colorful Essence Hey LA Eyeshadow palette. It’s cruelty-free, affordably priced and quite the beauty!
Last week, we discussed a $67 princess lipstick from Hermes. Today? An eyeshadow palette that’s miraculously only $9.99. Because when it comes to makeup, the best collections embrace it all at every price point!
The Essence Hey LA Eyeshadow Palette
You might recall last summer when I reviewed a GORGEOUS sunset themed Ola Rio palette from Essence. Well? At the start of 2020 they released a handful of new travel inspired eyeshadow palettes and they were simply too beauty to pass up.
What most caught my eye? The Essence Hey LA eyeshadow palette. With pinks and purples, it offered a lot more than your standard eyeshadow palette. I plucked this up in January and have been enjoying it ever since. Given the official arrival of spring, I thought it was high time I introduce the palette to you on Dream in Lace. After all, those pink and purple shades are beautiful for the season ahead!!

Essence Hey LA Eyeshadow Palette ($9.99)
What You Get Inside:
The Essence Hey LA Eyeshadow palette includes 9 shades of stylish pinks and golds. The palette draws inspiration from the glamour of Hollywood and vivid sunsets of Los Angeles, creating a color scheme that’s unique and quite a bit of fun! Tucked inside you will find:
Top Row (Left to Right)
- Matte cream
- Shimmery Peach
- Shimmery Light Gold
- Shimmery Rich Gold
- Satin Deep Brown
Bottom Row (Left to Right)
- Matte Warm Brown
- Shimmery Magenta Pink
- Matte Barbie Pink
- Matte Lilac Purple
Pigmentation:
Without a doubt, the colors included in the Essence Hey LA eyeshadow palette are GORGEOUS! You get nine full-pan shades that offer everyday golds as well as some punchier pink and purple options to add a little flare to your looks. The shadows are also nicely pigmented with great color pay-off.
Texture: Mostly Good
7 out of the 9 shadows are fantastic. Is that a perfect score? Of course not but for a $9.99 eyeshadow palette it seems pretty decent to me!
The shadows I struggled with are the last two matte shades. The matte pink and the matte purple in the bottom row are quite patchy when you applied and are difficult to blend. Using a damp brush definitely does help with this though, but either way it’s worth mentioning that they do require a bit more work than the other shadows.
Long Weartime:
Perhaps the biggest strong point of the Essence Hey LA eyeshadow palette? The incredible weartime of the shadows! Yes, I use an eyeshadow primer before applying (I like this from Lancome or this from Wet n Wild) to extend each shades use but even still — they hold up better than some much pricier eyeshadow palettes in my collection.
Application:
As I mentioned about texture, the matte pink and purple shades are patchy and somewhat difficult to work with. The other 7 shades, however, apply and blend beautifully! My advice with those two shades is to use either your finger or a damp eyeshadow brush for the best chance of success.
