The Essence Berlin eyeshadow palette takes you on a trip to Germany, playing with everyday neutrals and vivid greens that are perfect for early fall.
Ever since discovering the Ola Rio eyeshadow palette last year, I’ve been keeping my eye on Essence.
Their makeup is long-lasting and loaded with pigment, all for a fraction of the price their luxury counterparts are charging. And so when the new Berlin palette appeared whilst having a browse in the “what’s new” portion of Ulta’s website — I had that baby added to my cart in the blink of an eye.
The Essence Berlin Eyeshadow Palette
I honestly WISH I could say these photos of the Essence Berlin eyeshadow palette were taken while on a German vacation, but instead they’re taken on the shores of Lake Michigan. You, know – close. But perhaps that’s the beauty of these destination-inspired palettes! They take us around the world when travel restrictions get in the way.
Essence has taken us to Rio, LA, Paris, Sydney New York, Montreal and now Berlin — no passport, required.

Rich Pigmentation:
The Essence Berlin eyeshadows certainly pack a lot of punch in terms of pigmentation. And that’s great news, considering our patience is all rather limited in 2020. That’s right! These are one-swipe shades that will help you quickly create a vivid eyeshadow look for the day that will last. Pretty impressive for $9.99!

Uber Long-Lasting Formula
It’s August. High heat and humidity really are taking a beating on my everyday makeup – except where the Essence Berlin eyeshadow palette is concerned. One day, I was out in the scorching hot temperatures and my liquid eyeliner completely melted off. It was shocking and yes, I definitely looked like a raccoon when I caught myself in the mirror.
What was also shocking? How these shadows stayed put, even as the rest of my eye makeup vanished! They have super-strength lasting power and I for one am loving it.
Mattes > Shimmers
It’s worth noting that I find the quality of Essence’s matte shadows to be superior than their shimmers. Both have strong pigmentation, but the mattes apply more smoothly and evenly across the lid while you’ll need put in a little more effort with those shimmery shades. They’re still useable, but do come with more kick-back and fallout.
My favorite shade in the entire Essence Berlin palette is, in fact, the matte emerald green. It’s supremely pigmented and applies like a dream to the lids! I’ve used it all over the lid for a dramatic eye as well as taken to using it in the crease as an interesting alternative to black.
Easy to Blend
When swatching the Essence Berlin eyeshadow palette I was a bit nervous by how dry the eye-catching emerald green shade is. It made me worry that the shadow would be tricky to blend on the eye, but I’m happy to report that definitely wasn’t the case.
When applying these shadows, I do start off with a Lancome eyeshadow primer before layering the matte cream shade all across the lid. This creates a smooth surface that’s perfect for building and blending an eyeshadow look and I think really makes all the difference.
Great Palette for Beginners
I vote the Essence Berlin eyeshadow palette is perfect for beginners! It includes everyday neutral shades you literally can’t go wrong with — while also adding in pops of green that you can experiment with safely.
Essence Berlin Eyeshadow Palette Rundown
Pros:
- Exceptionally pigmented shadows
- Shadows last all day — even in extreme heat and humidity
- Affordably priced at $9.99
- Vegan and cruelty-free
- Nice color story for pre-fall
- Great for beginners
- Cardboard packaging with a full-sized mirror
Cons:
- The champagne and light pink shadows are rather dusty when compared to the other shades
- The pink shimmers are very similar on the lid, making me long for a different shade
Overall Grade: B+
For the price, I really don’t thank you can go wrong with any of the Essence eyeshadow palettes. They hold up well and have a great color selection.
The Berlin palette in particular I think is really nice for these late summer/early fall days. The neutral shades are versatile and perform well against high heat and humidity. The greens bring in a fun twist and work well across the lid, or as accent POPS of color.
