Pucker up because we’re breaking into the new Hermes lipstick collection! Are these luxurious beauties well and truly worth the $67 price tag?

In recent years, I dubbed the term “princess lipstick” and have operated under the belief that every gal needs at least one princess lipstick in her collection at any given time.
From the luxurious packaging of the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks to the silky smooth formulas of Dior, the ability to reach into your handbag and apply something to your lips that makes you feel special and a bit like a princess is good for the soul. Or, at least that’s what I tell myself when any new princess lipsticks make their way into my possession. They’re an investment into yourself! Right?
The New Hermes Lipstick Collection
As a self-declared lover of princess lipsticks, my interest spiked immediately when news broke that Hermes was stepping into the world of makeup. Their first product out the gate? A collection of luxurious lipsticks to make ladies around the globe feel all the more special when dressing their lips on a daily basis.
The Hermes lipstick collection is said to be the iconic luxury brand’s first foray into makeup with more to come. In fact, Hermes reports that a new makeup product can be expected every six months as they build a full, permanent line!
The initial Hermes lipstick collection includes a variety of formulas and finishes, including:
- Matte Lipstick (8 Shades)
- Satin Lipsticks (13 shades)
- Lip Shine (1 Limited Edition Shade)
- Lip Balm (1 Shade)
- Lip Pencil (1 Universal Shade)

Hermes Lipstick Collection ($67 Each)

At $67, an Hermes lipstick is no doubt pricier than alternatives from Chanel, Dior, Givenchy and YSL. The standard luxury lipstick tends to fall in the $30-$40 range, but that did not in the least bit hold back public interest!
Social media was abuzz as soon as news of the upcoming lipstick launch was announced. With that in mind, I took to the DreaminLace Instagram story to poll everyone and gauge interest in the lipsticks. Despite the higher price tag, overwhelmingly people expressed interest in the lipsticks and were seemingly very excited for this new chapter in beauty from Hermes.
The Hermes Lipstick in Shade Rose (40)
Reigning myself in, I gave myself permission to pick up ONE Hermes princess lipstick for the purpose of reviewing for you.
It was a challenge narrowing my decision down to one lipstick, but I thought of spring and felt the cheerful the shade Rose (40) was perfect! It has a satin finish and appeared online to be the optimal pink to add a splash of fun to my everyday makeup look without being too dramatic.
Beautiful Packaging:
As expected, the packaging for the Hermes lipsticks is quite beautiful! Each lipstick arrives in a signature orange box with its own carrying pouch. The lipstick’s bullet itself is a solid metal and has a beautiful Hermes emblem on the top of each cap.
Slight Fragrance:
The lipsticks do have a subtle sweet fragrance to them, almost like a piece of fruity candy. It’s a unique scent that’s unlike any other I’ve come across and while it is there, it’s not overpowering. The scent also becomes quickly undetectable as you wear the lipstick.
Smooth and Silky Texture:
Texture is definitely a selling point for luxury lipsticks and Hermes did not disappoint. The product is very silky and smoothly applies to the lips without any dragging at all.
Lightweight on the Lips:
When worn, I was immediately impressed with how light and comfortable the Hermes lipstick is on the lips. The formula packs a lot of color payoff and pigment, without any heaviness. The lipstick also provides a very satisfying feeling to the lips and that’s somehow lighter than alternatives from Dior and YSL without sacrificing any amount of coverage.
Refillable Packaging
At a time when we are all more aware of waste and being as responsible as possible with packaging, it is good news to see Hermes release lipsticks that are refillable! Replacement bullets are available for all the permanent shades in the collection. You can pick up more lipstick as you run out without needing to start from scratch altogether. Or, you could pick up a new shade if for any reason you didn’t want to stick with the same color.
Moderate Wear Time (Satin Finish)
I have to say, the satin Hermes lipstick definitely didn’t deliver a marathon amount of wear time for me. That matte formula may very well last longer, but with the Rose shade I picked up I was able to get 3-4 hours of wear time before needing to touch up. Good news? A lip pencil will definitely help you get more wear time than that and the lipstick does apply beautifully over a pencil without any issues.
I’m very curious to try one of the matte shades now, though, as I suspect they may have a bit more extended wear time. I’ve also heard wonderful things about how smooth and creamy the matte formula is!
