As we deck the halls and raise a glass to the New Year, let’s take a look back at the preceding twelve months. First glimpse down memory lane, the 10 best red carpet looks of 2015! (And some, may surprise you!–because I know they did me.)
Let’s get real for a second. 2015 was not exactly the year I expected it to be.
When the clock struck midnight, marking the start of 2015 – I had rose colored glasses of brilliant successes and wow moments on the red carpet. I would have predicted a lot of Cate Blanchett on my “Best Dressed” of the year list, with absolutely NO one from the Kardashian/Jenner clan in sight. Cut to December 22nd, and while there is miraculously NO Queen Cate on this list, begrudgingly a Miss Kendall Jenner weaseled her way into the top 10, thanks to a rather delicious Calvin Klein number at the Met Gala.
In a nutshell, 2015 was the year everything got flipped upside down.
So, let’s raise a glass of Cabernet as we take in the 10 best red carpet looks of the year — before we put the whole year behind us and charge full steam ahead into 2016.
Emma Stone in Elie Saab at the Oscars
Charming and delightful, Miss Emma Stone was the true darling of the 2015 award season. While Birdman wasn’t my cup of tea, this chartreuse delight on Emma most definitely was!
Kendall Jenner in Calvin Klein Collection at the Met Gala
Shocker upon shocker, a ‘Kardashian’ and Calvin Klein are both unexpected twists on this list. All in all, this was definitely a breath of fresh air for Calvin Klein — and decidedly, a slam dunk on the red carpet. While the Met Gala red carpet was an overall disappointment, Kendall did deliver.
Karlie Kloss in Diane van Furstenberg at the CFDA Awards
Who knew something so simple would become one of my favorites of the year? Karlie Kloss’s partnership with DVF was a true 2015 fashion highlight, and this CFDA look took the cake!
Emma Stone in Dior Couture at the SAG Awards
Emma Stone got kind of cheeky on the red carpet in this Dior. Menswear and a red lip? Always a hit.
Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrara at New York’s Botanical Gardens’ annual Conservatory Ball
Emmy Rossum is often the unsung hero of the red carpet, but this Carolina Herrera had even the biggest fashion critics taking note.
Lady Gaga in Tom Ford at the British Fashion Awards
When you can’t attend an award ceremony yourself, why not send Lady Gaga to do your dirty work? Tom Ford broke the mold when he dropped a runway show for his SS 2016 collection in favor of an upbeat video lookbook, starring Miss Gaga herself. It was a bold move that paid off, and this later red carpet moment was the red cherry on top!
Lupita Nyong’o in Gucci at the Cannes Film Festival
Lupita Nyong’o opened the Cannes Film Festival with a bang, as she delighted the red carpet with her now signature smile and twirl. If 2016 was one thing, it was the year Gucci reclaimed their stake as a true fashion dynasty and this was a major breakthrough moment. Work!
Julianne Moore in Givenchy at the Cannes Film Festival
Sure, Julianne had a whole awards season of great looks – but it was this Riccardo Tisci creation at the Cannes Film Festival that truly stole my heart. Only thing better than a redhead in green? A redhead that’s daring enough to wear red, itself.
Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace at the Golden Globes
Because Kate Hudson has an insane physique and no one showcases the body quite like Versace, the two are truly a match made in heaven. Perhaps even better is their shared commitment to crisp white.
Diane Kruger in Prada at the Cannes Film Festival
Prada was on somewhat of a path to redemption in 2016, and this STUNNING gown righted all their 2014 wrongs. Diane Kruger was beyond striking as a modern day Cinderella.
What is your favorite red carpet moment of 2015?
