In case you missed it, which of course you didn’t, last night was the 2015 Golden Globes – and like my sparkling glass of Asti, the red carpet was overflowing with stars. Hollywood REALLY showed up this year, to the point where not everyone fit and winners had to be ushered in from next door to accept awards. (Seriously, that really happened.)
It was a big night. Amal Clooney made her first red carpet appearance, fashionistas like Naomi Watts and Diane Kruger attended on the arms of their nominated men, and there was a ton of Versace to go around. It’s officially award season and it couldn’t have kicked off in a bigger way!
Of course, I can’t share my favorite looks from the red carpet without first acknowledging the late Joan Rivers. It’s the first award season without her witty commentary and it already feels a bit empty without her. Without Joan Rivers, lists like these wouldn’t even matter. So, in honor of Joan…let’s celebrate the 10 Best Dressed Ladies of the Golden Globes!
Allison Williams in Armani Prive Couture
Allison Williams shook off her Peter Pan costume and came dressed in stunning Armani Prive Fall 2014 Couture. There were a lot of ‘ladies in red’ on last night’s carpet, but none shown quite as brightly as Williams – who continues to prove she has real gumption when it comes to fashion. I like that she’s not afraid to really bring it. She’s a supporting actress on a premium cable channel, giving the world’s biggest movie stars a real run for the money. Go Allison!
Diane Kruger in Emilia Wickstead
Diane Kruger surprised us all when she opted for a lesser known designer: Emilia Wickstead. Not so surprising: she looked perfect from head-to-toe. Another slam dunk for Diane, who makes it all look so simple doesn’t she? I love a dress that celebrates a woman’s curves, and this shimmering gown skims right over Diane’s with perfection. Plus, she’s dating Pacey guys. PACEY!!!
Emily Blunt in Michael Kors
Emily Blunt campaigned to prove white after Labor Day is absolutely accepted in light and elegant Michael Kors. Given that it’s basically Antarctica outside my window, this was a welcomed breath of fresh air. She looked so light and happy! The dress in itself was great, but what really sold me on the entire look was the jewelry. What can I say? I’m a sucker for statement pieces.
Emma Stone in Lanvin
Emma Stone does not disappoint on the red carpet, and last night was no exception. Skipping your standard gown, Emma opted for a Lanvin jumpsuit – complete with a sparkling bodice and big black bow. It was a fun, spirited look that felt perfect for the Golden Globes. Then again, can she ever lose with that red hair?
Felicity Jones in Dior
Felicity Jones has had some really fantastic Dior moments lately, and so it made total sense to see her choose Dior for her first major red carpet. Interestingly, this timeless and gracious look felt really different against the slinky numbers we saw on most stars. She went classic, and it worked…really well.
Jessica Chastain in Atelier Versace
It was a lot of fun to see Jessica Chastain go for something kind of saucy for the Golden Globes this year! Her bronze Atelier Versace was the perfect marriage of flirty and glamorous. This is what Lana Del Ray SHOULD have looked like.
Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace
Kate Hudson wore glamorous white Atelier Versace to the Academy Awards last season (here), and while this is very similar – I can find no fault. Sometimes we forget that we don’t ALWAYS have to reinvent the wheel. If it works, it works. Gorgeous!
Lorde in Narciso Rodriguez
Breakout star of last night’s Golden Globes red carpet? Lorde. Lorde has discussed feeling uncomfortable at red carpet events, so seeing her having fun on the red carpet was a big step! Another big step? Her custom Narciso Rodriguez pantsuit that was styled to perfection. I love that she found a look that made a statement while helping also keeping her comfortable on the red carpet. My only complaint? She didn’t bring Taylor Swift along with her.
Naomi Watts in Gucci
It’s far too difficult for me to pick 10 favorite looks to every try and rank them in any order, but if there was an order…Naomi Watts in Gucci would be near the very top! I honestly didn’t think she could top last year’s Tom Ford, but oh I was wrong. We need to see blondes in canary yellow more often. It’s a surprisingly great fit!
Sienna Miller in Miu Miu
Sienna Miller’s appreciation for fashion pleases me immensely. In delicate, demure and fashion forward Miu Miu she really was the underdog of the night if you ask me. It was such an unconventional look for the red carpet, that I couldn’t help but fall completely in love. Sienna had such a lovely feature in Vogue this month and I’m happy to see her getting well-deserved recognition for her acting talent. People swoon over her style so much I think we forget she’s also a good actress. I’m hoping to see her turn up at these things more often!
As I said, the red carpet was LOADED with stars last night and there are way more looks we need to discuss than just these 10. I’ve pulled everything together into one massive Golden Globes Album, so click through to see all the other looks of the night.

Amal was there and it was good, but not great enough to be in the top 10. She’s my official girl crush though! xo
