I won’t bore you with most of the contents of my most-recent splurge through CVS. Toothpaste, deodorant and body wash aren’t exactly the most exciting things every. (Essential, yes. Exciting, no.) But I of course took a stroll over to the makeup section and couldn’t resist picking up a few things. My objective was to find some light base alternatives for summer that are less costly than my higher end BB Creams. I have low expectations when it comes to drugstore foundations, but I thought perhaps I could find a nice light-coverage formula to even out my skintone without being all holy moly!
What’s a bit ironic is I shopped the whole-time thinking ‘Branch out Kelly! No drugstore lippies!’…and yet somehow managed to walk away with 3. 50% of my total makeup purchases. *shrugs* I guess when it comes to the drugstore, there’s one thing I trust above any other cosmetic product and that is things for my lips! (Drugstore mascaras are also good but, having accumulated so many, I have put a ban on purchasing any mascara until I use some up.)
So here’s what I picked up!
L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder : in 320 Natural Beige
I’ve never had much interest in this product. That is, until I considered this from a different point of view: a tinted moisturizer that will stay matte. That is my goal for this girl. Very light coverage, that will somehow combat the mass humidity here by being, in-theory, a ‘powder’. So, basically I picked this up not looking for a foundation at all but something that would pseudo work like a tinted moisturizer with stay-matte properties. Does it live up to that expectation? Stay tuned!
CoverGirl Jumbo Gloss Balm : in Cupcake Twist
The fact that I even stepped over to the Covergirl range is a sure sign of just how much I was trying to push myself to discover new things. I’m not exactly sure how it happened, but I’ve become really prejudice against Covergirl which I thought needed to stop. But are these really new? I mean, they were marked as new but as everyone else has been on the jumbo crayon craze for well over a year it seems like CG is extremely late to the party. It’s a pretty color, but my expectations for this are low. But, I’ll keep you posted!
L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire : Coral Encore
One thing I know for sure is, I will love this! It’s really a huge question between this and the Maybelline Elixirs of just what is my favorite recent launch in the drugstore. I’m sure I’ve already professed my love for these…but I am still happy to pick up such a pretty color. And I literally tore the store apart to find this because every time I’ve gone for this shade it’s sold out. Aha! It’s mine!
Maybelline 24H Color Tattoo : Bad to the Bronze
I’ve picked this up and set this back countless times. But, as I’ve taken to using Inked in Pink a lot lately as a base…I thought I should finally pick this up as a more traditional base color. I like that these work well with other shadows…but also work well when you’re in a rush on their own.
CoverGirl BB Cream : Light to Medium
Of all the “BB creams” in the drugstore, this one is probably the most ridiculous as it’s actually an old tinted moisturizer of CG, rebranded as a “BB cream”. I use “” because I really don’t think you can get an actual BB cream in the drugstore. Sorry. No. Least of all from CoverGirl. (Garnier, Aveeno…etc. maybe). But, that said, I’m down to try a drugstore version of a tinted moisturizer. The only tinted moisturizer I’ve used is the infamous one from Laura Mercier, and I was really keeping an open mind here! I tried and really didn’t like the L’Oreal Magic BB Cream that people tend to love. So, perhaps in an ironic turn of events I’ll actually love this one. Definitely stay tuned on this one guys!
Maybelline Color Elixir : Glowing Garnet
Another favorite with new colors released are the Maybelline Color Elixirs that are truly like heaven on your lips. To boot, they’re so easy to wear. I throw these in my bag, (and all around really), to quickly snatch up for a good look on-the-go. I actually prefer going for the more subtle shades of the collection with these to be the perfect everyday product. I’m assuming everyone’s tried these…but if by chance you haven’t, DO!
And some swatches! |
That’s all of the new makeup bits I picked up this week. I’m really excited to review the “BB cream” from CoverGirl and the L’Oreal Magic Nude for you guys for ‘Yay or Nay Monday‘. I’m already testing out the L’Oreal product so stay tuned for that to be up on Monday!
What have you been loving from the drugstore for summer?
