Wake Up: it’s makeup favorites time! Meet 10 beauty bits that have been in heavy rotation on my face.
Happy Tuesday! First, I wanted to share my excitement that today is Election Day. For better or for worse, we’re very near the end of this never-ending presidential race here in the US. I took advantage of the early voting in my state and cast my ballot a couple weeks back, but if you have not yet…be sure to VOTE! It’s ever so important to exercise your right and make your voice heard.
UPDATE: The election is over…if you want to see my reflection on that, click here: http://bit.ly/2fcV6PA
Now, let’s step off the subject of the big election hanging over our heads for a bit of a throwback post. It’s been a long while since I shared my ‘monthly’ makeup favorites. In fact, upon fact-checking, it’s been over a year. While monthly makeup favorites are posts and videos that I enjoy from others, they put pressure on me and I found myself including things as favorites that maybe weren’t genuinely favorites…for the sake of having something to share.
With that in mind, my new idea is to periodically share seasonal favorites that I truly do LOVE and that’s what’s on the agenda today. Over the last couple months, I’ve acquired a list of fall makeup favorites that I use nearly every day, if not every. Some of these items you may have seen before in a review, but others are completely new and never before featured on Dream in Lace.
Are you ready to hear about some makeup favorites? Here are 10 items I’m loving this fall!
1. Lime Crime Velvetine Metallic Liquid Lipstick in ‘Lana’
Leave it to Kylie Jenner to perk up our interest in metallic liquid lipsticks. While I just can’t seem to get it together to order a Kyle Lip Kit, I made an amazing discovery: Lime Crime. Lime Crime is a 100% vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics brand and I am actually obsessed with their Velvetine Liquid Lipsticks, particularly this Metallic one in the shade ‘Lana’. Lana is a metallic brown, which is perfect for the fall season. At first I thought it might be a more daring choice, but with my auburn hair and complexion – the lipstick is very wearable, even in the daytime. What’s particularly great is how nicely this sets and doesn’t transfer around my face through the day as I guzzle coffee, water and have the munchies. (See Lana on my lips in this post, here.)
2. Tarte CC Undereye Corrector Concealer
Do you know of Amelia Liana? She’s one of my beauty guru favorites and she’s raved on and on about the Tarte undereye concealer for ages. As a big fan of their Maracuja Concealer, I had to give it a try and by golly she is right. This concealer is like putty and true champion at covering those bags under my eyes from late nights watching Netflix and generally tossing around like an insomniac nut. Tarte as well is a 100% cruelty-free brand, and the price is great. Winning!
3. MAC Mini Pigment in Brown Blue
A long while ago, I went to the MAC counter at Nordstrom looking for a pigment to wear at a specific event. I fell in love this neutral brown with a surprising iridescent finish. When it catches the light, beautiful shades of blue and hints of purple reflect back. Then…the event happened, I ended up going with something else and forgot about the product altogether. In September I dug this out and have been loving it ever since! The color is gorgeous for fall and the MAC pigments are honestly magical when it comes to staying put ALL day long – even without a primer. If you’re looking for an eye product that’s super pigmented, long-wearing and a bit of “fun” to splash on your eyes, I highly suggest you pick this up!
4. Lorac Behind-the-Scenes Eyeshadow Primer
This may sound weird, but I think I blink more than the average person – a problem that makes an eye primer a must. Back in the day, I used to use neutral cream shadows to prime my eyes, but this year I’ve fallen head over heals for this eyeshadow primer by Lorac. I throw this on, let it set while doing my foundation and then get to work applying eyeshadow that will stay put throughout the day. The primer no doubt extends the length of wear time of your favorite shadows and is a great insurance policy on a long day. A primer that helps you weather the storm? Sold.
5. Sweet Mint EOS Lip Balm
Who doesn’t love a good lip balm? I swear by lip balm all through the year but in the fall and winter months, it’s downright mandatory. EOS has so many delicious flavors, but the one I buy again and again is the tasty Sweet Mint. The cooling feeling on your lips is refreshing, especially as you’re drifting off to sleep at night. I like to think of this as thin mints for your lips. Yum!
6. Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream
I live in fear of bad eyes – a situation made difficult by chronic lack of sleep. In the mornings, I use the Tarte Undereye Corrector to help me look refreshed but Clinique’s eye cream has joined the ranks in my “How not to look like a zombie” routine. The cream is quick and easy to apply, with a coolness that soothes your undereye area and helps with any de-puffing. Late night? Who’s going to know! (Except for the coffee pot, of course.)
7. Clinique High Impact Black Kajal Eyeliner Pencil
When Clinique sent me this eyeliner pencil over the summer, I thought it was a nice gesture but didn’t anticipate falling in love with it. I’m strongly committed to liquid eyeliner with Marc Jacobs black Highliner in my waterline and didn’t expect Clinique could make me budge from my favorite beauty ritual. Turns out, I was wrong. The High Impact Kajal eyeliner is a true makeup favorite of mine because it lasts and blends like a champ. Of course, the true test of any eyeliner pencil is in the waterline and it works. So much so, that I haven’t picked up my Marc Jacobs pencil in a while now. Clinique won me over with this smooth, creamy and matte black eyeliner that rings up at half the price.
8. Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Voluminous Mascara
An oldie, but a goodie! I play the field with mascaras, but somehow always find my way back to this voluminous wonder by Estee Lauder. The huge bristled brush lengthens my lashes like no other and even when applying multiple coats, this doesn’t clump or smudge off.
9. OPI x Kerry Washington Nail Polish in CIA = Color is Awesome
When I read Kerry Washington discussing her OPI collection in the September issue of InStyle, I was more than intrigued. Over the summer, I retired nail polish for months of going “bare”. This evergreen nail polish brought me out of nail polish retirement and I’m happy to report: it’s good. The polish is strongly pigmented, to the point where you could get away with only one coat, and truly doesn’t chip for days. I use this with OPI’s top coat, but I think you could extend the wear even longer by using a gel coat…perhaps the Essie Gel Couture one.
10. Clinique Superbalanced Foundation
I did ramble on about this newer Clinique foundation in a full review here, but simply had to include it in my makeup favorites because it’s that good! If you combat oil throughout the day, this is the foundation for you. It fights oil build-up and leaves you with smooth silky coverage that lasts all day.
