When you think about quintessential American fashion – Ralph Lauren is one of the first names that comes to mind, always. They’re classic and never really go out of style. It’s a bit of an American tradition really, and so when they take the stage on the closing day of New York Fashion Week each season, as an American I feel it’s my civic duty to play really close attention. And this season, RL made it SUPER easy to pay close attention – what with their fabulous gemstones decorating necklines from start to finish, bright colors that pop and the subtle classics we know and love, with a militant influence.
From start to finish, I was hooked (line and sinkered).
And yes, all of the above are super fabulous and gorgeous – but what REALLY matters here are the decorative gems.
I mean, duh!
These brilliant and ornate pops of color drape are equally as beautiful as they are dramatic. Am I nuts to be reminded of Princess Jasmine of Aladdin by these colors? It’s like an Arabian dream meets standard American classic. To be perfectly honest, I’m hoping the dramatic statement necklace n-e-v-e-r goes out of style. Bring it on!
I love how this collection mixes bright vivid colors with neutrals like olive khaki and standard silhouettes like a shirt dress. Ralph Lauren has a real knack of jazzing up the American classics (that they helped define) for the new day. It makes me think about the amount of fun I could get into decking out my khakis with unexpected neons.
If you want more NYFW, which of course you do, check out the Fashion Week Directory to browse other collections discussed here on Dream in Lace. And buckle up, because the month is only just beginning with London, Milan and Paris Fashion Week ahead. And I do have Beauty posts planned every money – just to keep things interesting around here!
I’ll talk to you all later. Remember, wear color with your khakis this week. That’s an order!

I was so excited when I saw this collection because I’m obsessed with Georgian Collet Necklaces (you’ve probably seen these on Anna Wintour as well!). I make them for historical reenactors and costumers who recreate clothing from the 18th and 19th century, but I’m so thrilled to see these coming back into style! They are so lovely and opulent and timeless. I have my version of this necklace available on Etsy here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/219154969/pre-order-multi-colored-rhinestone?ref=shop_home_active_2
