Well – it’s a Raf Simons free world at Christian Dior now on the Paris runways. The famous house took to the Paris runways sans Simons to debut a classic and sprightly Spring 2016 haute couture collection.
The fashion stage was set with oversized mirrors hanging from a vast ceiling to showcase a collection that plays to Dior’s classic look, featuring navy with lively splashes of color. Fashion heavy hitters like Olivia Palermo and Miroslava Duma were in attendance for the lovely 53-look collection, that showed fit-and-flare dresses, sparkling jackets and the occasional bell shape. It all felt like business as usual, even though Dior is currently operating without a creative director. But with a heritage as strong as Dior’s, Simons’ absence actually didn’t rattle things much at all, did it?
Upon digging through the archives, I was stunned to see Dream in Lace has not featured a Dior collection since 2014…and I thought I would remedy that, pronto! Few shows are iconic as Dior, which sits atop the bucket lists of fashionistas around the globe…including mine. Oh can you imagine….the day when I finally get to attend a Dior show. Mark my words folks, it will happen. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life…never give up on your dreams, because every dream is possible!
Before I excuse you to lust over the latest Dior collection, I did want to highlight the notable absence of any major evening gowns. With Miss Dior herself Jennifer Lawrence once again being nominated for an Academy Award, the question remains just what she will wear…and today’s show, while beautiful, presented no standout options. In the end though, I like this younger and more youthful Dior. It feels like a reflection of the world today and the modern young woman’s wardrobe needs.
I can scarcely believe how quickly Dior’s Spring 2016 couture collection has come and gone. My calendar has been waiting for the day for some time now. It was a lovely collection though and I look forward to seeing the looks pop up in editorial spreads of my favorite fashion magazines (W and Harper’s Bazaar, you there?) and one famous Hollywood faces through the year. No, it’s sadly not likely that any of these luxe pieces will find their way into my J.Crew laden closet…but someday, people. Some. Day.
On that note – my Twitter and Instagram accounts will be buzzing with looks off the Couture Week runways. So, be sure to follow along. My definite plan is to meet back here and discuss the best gowns of the season, but if there are individual collections you’d like to discuss — let me know!
As always, thank you so much for reading and check back tomorrow!
