We can debate the advantages and disadvantage of winter – but when it comes to the skin? There’s no denying the change of season can take a toll on your skin.
That is of course if you have the pleasure of living in an area blessed with single digit temperatures, a dry atmosphere, ice and snow.
And year after year winter seems to have more of an impact on my ability to maintain my skin’s moisture barrier. This is why you can find me every night showering myself in Cerave from head to toe.
THE BEST WINTER FOUNDATIONS
Perched at my vanity this morning and lathering the Haus Labs Triclone foundation to my face – I started thinking about the nature of foundation and how some perform better than others by the season.
In the summer months I find myself more likely to skip over overly hydrating and glowy formulas that can easily veer into a “greasy” state in high heat and humidity. And in the winter months? My skin craves hydrating ingredients that bring a nice glow to the skin… at a time when the sun is playing a game of hide and seek.
I challenged myself to identify the five best winter foundations currently in my makeup collection to hopefully help you find the perfect one for you! The best news of all? They feature inclusive shade ranges to with a great match available for all skintones.
Meet my winter favorites – below!

Light Reflection Foundation ($50)
Truthfully – this miracle product from NARS isn’t just one of the best winter foundations — it’s one of the best foundations of all time.
It breaks through the ceiling as a groundbreaking product that’s 70% skincare and 30% makeup — nourishing and protecting your skin from sun and blue-light damage. It’s particularly excellent for the winter months when your skin needs extra support against the extreme cold temperatures and dry atmosphere.

Wet n Wild Tinted Hydrator ($6.49)
Alright – this one might be a bit of a cheat to include among the 5 best winter foundations as it’s technically more of a tinted hydrator — but it’s simply too fantastic to leave off the list. I have simply lost count on how many tubes of this gem from the drugstore I’ve worked my way through.
Wet n Wild pulled off a miracle – creating an affordable product that contains both squalane and hyaluronic acid to nourish your skin. It also has a lovely medium coverage finish that lasts all day long!
Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Foundation ($45)
With Haus Labs, Lady Gaga proves that if at first you don’t succeed sometimes you really ought to try again. The revamped vegan makeup line features clean products that last. And they round out my picks for the 5 best winter foundations with the Triclone Skin Tech foundation that is quite unlike any base I’ve used before.
The formula is another that focuses on skincare ingredients and the radiant matte finish lasts for twelve+ hours — no touchups required.
