When it comes to the modern day makeup scene, Pat McGrath is a top player! Not only do her innovative looks on the high fashion runways spark trends, she’s also created her own makeup line with high-quality products that earn rave reviews.
You might recall last year when she dropped the Sublime Perfection Foundation and it became my pick for the BEST foundation release of 2019. Well now she’s back, expanding her collection of base products with the new Pat McGrath concealer and an undereye blurring powder to match.
Pat McGrath Concealer System
With a lofty title, Pat McGrath’s “Skin Fetish Sublime Perfection Concealer System” includes three parts:
- The concealer
- Blurring undereye powder
- Makeup brush
For the purposes of this review, I skipped picking the brush up because I didn’t think it was a necessary step. I have a few “special products” that were created specifically for one product in my collection and they’ve never became staples in my routine. I was however very interested in how the undereye blurring powder and picked that and the concealer up to use as a duo!

THE CONCEALER
Formulated with a Vita-Serum Complex
Pat McGrath’s Sublime Perfection concealer was naturally created to be the perfect match to the foundation. Both are available in 36 coordinating shades and are formulated with a Vita-Serum Complex to combat fine lines and wrinkles on the skin.
The Perfect Match and Alternative to the Foundation
The Sublime Perfection foundation’s ability to smooth and create an almost filter-like appearance to the skin is one of its finest qualities. To see the Pat McGrath concealer step up to the plate and offer the same experience makes sense and is much appreciated. This is especially fantastic for those days when you don’t want to go the full foundation route but would like some of those great benefits with a concealer as a quick-fix.
Full-Coverage That’s Lightweight
It seems like an oxymoron to say the Pat McGrath concealer is full coverage while also being lightweight. Those two things don’t often go together but the concealer does manage to pull it off. It has a very creamy and smooth texture that blends nicely onto the skin very easily. And yes, the coverage is STRONG!
The concealer manages to cover these pesky dark spots I hate on my cheek far better than any other concealer in my collection. I’m also pleased to say that coverage LASTS!
The Blurring Undereye Powder
Virtually Weightless
While the concealer itself is quite lightweight, I have to say that undereye blurring powder has absolutely zero weight to it. It applies to the skin as softly as air and smooths out very nicely over the concealer.
Available in 3 Shades
Where the concealer is available in 36 shades, the Pat McGrath Undereye Blurring Powder currently has three shades. That definitely felt limiting when trying to color match myself as my skintone falls somewhere in between the Light and Medium powders to my eye. Ultimately, I decided to pick up the light and it’s worked out pretty well for me…but I do hope to see more shades become available. Even adding one or two more I think would be a big help!
For the current shade selection, here are the recommendations from Pat McGrath when choosing a powder:
- Light: Pairs with concealer/foundation shades 1 – 14
- Medium: Pairs with shades 15 – 28
- Dark: Pairs with shades 29 – 36
Great Under the Eye – And All Over
Because of its lightness and ability to smooth over the skin effortlessly, I understand why this dubbed an undereye powder. It does not cake and applies very softly, great things to have for such a delicate area of your complexion.
All that said, I do think the powder works well everywhere! I tested the product out with both a powder buff and brush with equally great results. The powder locks foundation and concealer in place while smoothing over pours and any other uneven textures.
Pat McGrath Concealer & Blurring Powder Rundown:
The Pros:
- Great shade range for the concealer with 36 shades
- Very lightweight and does not cake on the skin
- Concealer is full-coverage with a little going a long way
- Concealer includes Vita-Serum Complex to combat fine lines & wrinkles as an added benefit
- Blurring, filter-like appearance to the skin
- Applies smoothly and is easy to blend
- Both products are long lasting
- Products work well both together and separately
- MUCH more moderately priced than the foundation
- Products can be bundled for added cost savings
The Cons:
- Powder has limited shade range of only 3 shades
- Limited availability. Currently sold from Pat McGrath and Sephora only.
- When shipped, product comes in extremely wasteful packaging with lots of unnecessary plastic
Overall Grade: A for the Concealer; B for the Powder
I expected that I would really enjoy the Pat McGrath concealer but honestly, it has become a new favorite. Particularly on those days when I don’t want to apply foundation, I’m really enjoying reaching for it because it conceals problem areas so effectively with minimal effort on my part.
The concealer’s shade range is great and it’s also much more reasonably priced than the foundation while offering similar results. The foundation rings in at $68 a bottle – more than double the price of the concealer at $32 a pop.
As for the powder, I think it is great and I do quite like using it all over my face to set my foundation and concealer. It gives off a nice matte finish and being virtually weightless, does not settle or get cake-y. The color range is limited, though, and I’m not convinced I like it enough to repurchase it over the holy grail Laura Mercier powder.
