Pat McGrath Divine Rose II Eyeshadow Palette Review I Dreaminlace.com

I’d like to say this post was thoughtfully inspired with my lovely readers in mind, but if I’m being honest? It was 100% inspired by my own growing obsession with Pat McGrath Labs. With every product I try, I fall in love more and more. We’re now at the point where it’s safe to say I’ve officially achieved STAN status. (Shoutout to Devon Sawa from the Stan music video. He’s amazing!)

The good news is we seem to be on the same page!

Pat McGrath Labs is easily the brand you most respond to here on DreaminLace. My post reviewing her new concealer and undereye powder (both fabulous) is my most-read of 2020 (thus far). When she has a sale, you guys click with frenzy — and I cannot blame you. She’s creating a whole new world in beauty that’s fun to follow and even more fun to explore in our every day beauty routines. My eyes and ears are perked, always ready for news of a new product release and today — we have an especially fantastic one to discuss!

Pat McGrath Divine Rose II Palette

It’s a rare thing for me to care enough to set an alarm for a makeup product release, but for the Pat McGrath Divine Rose II Palette it happened. There I was with an 8:50 am EST alarm set so I could be primed and ready the very MOMENT this colorful beauty became available at 9 am.

“Out of Stock”

I was gutted and took a moment to wallow in self pity before trying to order again. On the second go around? I succeeded and walked away with a confirmation number! Sure, I missed out on the limited edition pink packaging but it’s what’s on the inside that really counted for me. Even with a confirmation, I still didn’t believe my good fortune that I successfully landed one of the most highly anticipated palettes of the year at launch before it (predictably) went out of stock.

But I did! A few days later this beauty arrived in the mail and yes, I absolutely was pacing by the window waiting for that UPS truck to arrive. (Probably worth noting I passed him a street away on my drive back home from work so I’m not a complete lunatic. Or am I?)

Unique Color Palette:

As I’ve come to expect from Pat McGrath, you can really see her artistry at play with the Divine Rose II palette’s color selection. Not only is PM a gifted makeup artist who brings masterful looks to the high fashion runways, she also injects that into everything creates for her own brand. She continues to deliver products that offer a point of view that is rather unique compared to what else exists on the market place.

This palette in particular was designed with the summer season in mind. It made its debut on the Maison Valentino Spring 2020 haute couture runways last January and finally is available for our everyday collections. The colors are bold, but wearable — with striking dimension that really sets them apart.

Pigmentation and Application:

Being such a colorful palette to start, one would hope that the quality of pigment would carry through and I’m here to tell you the Pat McGrath Divine Rose II palette does NOT disappoint!! The swatches you’ll see below came with a very light touch. The shadows are each packed with wow-factor…to the point where you may need to wash your brushes between use. That’s how richly pigmented they are!

And I’m also quite happy to say the shadows blend very nicely! Sometimes metallic shades can get quite patchy as you blend them out, but I didn’t run into that at all after several days of testing.

One word of caution, as the shadows are highly highly pigmented — be careful. You don’t want your brush to touch places you don’t want pigment to go because there it will be and there it will stay…unless you touch up with concealer or foundation.

Long-Lasting and Summer-Weather Approved

Here in Cincinnati, we’ve already been facing 97 degree temperatures with 90% humidity. Not ideal for comfort sake, but definitely optimal weather for testing the true staying powder of the Pat McGrath Divine Rose II eyeshadows!

I am overjoyed to report that these shadows LAST in high heat, humidity — and even the pool. Truly, I don’t think I’ve found shadows that rival this level of staying powder since the original Lorac Pro palette. Definitely a perfect palette for summer!

Most Gorgeous Duo Chrome Shade to Date

MAC has come out with some really nice duochrome shades through the years, as has Urban Decay and NABLA Cosmetics. But the “VR Sextraterrestrial” shade include in the Divine Rose II palette is entirely on a whole new level. It’s such a fascinating shade as well and I really wish I could visit Pat’s lab to learn more on how they brought it to light. At some angles, it’s pink. At others, it’s green — like the stem of the rose. It’s truly ingenious and unlike any other eyeshadow I have ever seen. (And I’ve seen A LOT!)

Luxury That’s Worth the Price

My makeup collection features several palettes from Dior, Chanel, YSL and even a couple from Tom Ford. All come with heftier price tags but none do I consider to truly be worth it quite like what Miss Pat McGrath delivers. Not only is she a visionary black MUA who continues to offer a unique point of view with every product she releases, she truly has a commitment to long-lasting products that work for all women.

It’s not just about pretty packaging. Yes, the packaging is beautiful – but what’s tucked inside is truly worth its weight in gold. From her foundation to her lipsticks, to her powders to her eyeshadows, she really thinks about the user’s experience from start-to-finish.

As I said above, if I was disappointed I would be the first in line to tell you. But my expectations continue to be knocked out of the park.

Pat McGrath Divine Rose II Eyeshadow Palette Rundown:

The Pros:

  • Unique color selection with the most amazing duochrome eyeshadow to date
  • Powerfully pigmented
  • Long-lasting – even in high heat and humidity
  • Shadows blend smoothly and evenly, even the trickier metallic shades
  • When applied wet, shadows also double as a beautiful metallic liner
  • Luxurious packaging
  • Sold both from Pat McGrath and Sephora

The Cons:

  • Struggling to think of any. I suppose the price, but I honestly feel its worth it. (Don’t hate me!)
  • Currently sold out? (But will be restocked 6/15/2020!!)
  • Might have been nice to have a matte cream shade

Overall Grade: A

Surprise – or not surprise, I’m in love with the Pat McGrath Divine Rose II palette. The color selection, the quality of the shadows, the longevity of the shadows, the application of each shade, the flawless packaging…need I go on?

So far, I’m honestly yet to be disappointed by Pat McGrath Labs. When I am, I’ll be sure to let you know, but for right now – we are getting along swimmingly well. Every couture week and fashion month, I look forward to what Pat creates for the runway and that must-see status is transitioning to her brand as well. When it comes to luxury makeup, there really are a lot of options out there — but I dare say the most trust-worthy brand at the moment is Pat McGrath Labs.

Yes, I realize that’s a big statement to make — but I sincerely believe that to be true. She’s setting the bar higher than anyone else is able to reach at the moment. Bravo!!
