Could the Maybelline Fit Me foundation be as good as I hoped? Let’s find out!
Good day, dreamers! Today I wanted to talk about a subject I feel has been severely neglected around here: drugstore makeup.
Don’t know quite how it happened, but somehow I’ve neglected to visit a “drugstore” in what feels like a year or so. Crazy, right?! So when a burst of excitement sprung up recently, I couldn’t ignore it and headed straight to the drugstore in hopes of finding a hidden gem or two.
Enter the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation
The Maybelline Fit Me foundation has a lot of buzz and makes two big claims that are music to my ears: matte and poreless.
Yes, please.
I hate a sticky, dewy foundation and prefer to live in a world without pores. (Don’t we all?) This foundation seemed to be right up my alley and so I stood matching and pairing shades to my skintone. Picking up the shade 220 Natural Beige – I set off, ready to put the product to the test!
If you saw my favorite winter foundations post, you might remember that lately – my makeup routine has featured foundations that range from $25 to $68 dollars. And so, the Maybelline Fit Me foundation coming in at $7.99 feels like a STEAL!
Now, I know you’re ready to get to the nitty gritty about the foundation so let me go ahead and break down the major details.
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Fundamentals
- Finish: Matte. Not semi-matte, but fully matte.
- Coverage: Medium, but buildable
- Longevity: Easily about 6 hours without any touch ups, longer with a translucent powder for touching up through the day.
- Poreless? Thankfully, the foundation does not settle into and exaggerate pores. But, it doesn’t completely minimize them – I would recommend still using with a primer if you have larger pores.
- Color-Range: There are 28 shades available in the Fit Me foundation. Fantastic color selection!
- Availability: As it’s Maybelline, you can find this stuff virtually everywhere.
- Cost: $7.99 and is frequently available on sale. Of course, there’s always coupons as well. Bonus!
Now that I’ve gone over the Maybelline Fit Me foundation basics, I wanted to give you more details on my personal experience with this foundation.
Thus far, I have worn the foundation for a couple of weeks on workdays. I haven’t yet used it for any major events, so to speak, but it’s done a nice job of holding up during a busy workday.
I’m SUPER fussy and lazy when it comes to foundation. Meaning? I’m overly picky about its performance, but also completely unmotivated to touch up my makeup throughout the day or in most cases, even remember to use a primer. I throw this on my face in the morning after moisturizing, set with a translucent powder and like to forget that it’s there altogether till about 9 o’clock at night when I watch my face.
Is the Maybelline Fit Me foundation as fool-proof as I would hope? Not exactly.
Unlike counterparts like MAC’s Studio Fix Fluid or Marc Jacobs Remarcable foundation, this is a matte foundation that will require a little bit of work from you to truly stay matte through the day. I’m not saying LOTS of work, but you’ll definitely want to include a powder compact in your handbag.
When using the Maybelline Fit Me foundation, I’ve noticed some shine in my T-zone and done some quick touch ups at my desk or at red lights. Since I am so lazy when it comes to makeup, this is an extra step I’m not used to taking – but at just $7.99 from the drugstore, it seems worth it.
Another drawback for me is the lack of a pump. I really don’t like having to pour foundation out of a bottle to apply, but I get that this is something that would have an affect on the price. So, at $7.99 – I again feel like it’s worth it.
How Do I Apply the Fit Me Foundation?
I pour about a dime-nickle sized (depending on how great I feel my skin looks) amount onto the back of my hand and apply with a Real Techniques Expert face brush. Then I follow up with my concealer before setting everything with a translucent powder, (Laura Mercier’s or Rimmel’s Stay Matte are great options.)
The Fit Me foundation does have a liquid-to-powder finish, meaning it takes a couple of minutes to completely set in its “matte” state. Generally, I really enjoy the way the product sets. It looks nice on the skin and doesn’t appear cake-y at all.
Overall, Do I Recommend the Fit Me Foundation
I do! It’s definitely among the better drugstore foundations I have tried. The L’Oreal Pro-Matte Infallible foundation is among my very favorites of all time – and I’d rank Maybelline’s Fit Me a bit lower than that.
If giving it a letter grade, I’d say the L’Oreal Infallible is an A+ and the Maybelline Fit Me foundation is a B+. It’s great, but not miraculous.
General Pros of the Fit Me Foundation?
- Great value for the price. For $7.99, I think you’ll be very impressed with this foundation
- Excellent color selection and easy to find
- Love the matte finish
- It’s noticeable on the skin, but not heavy or cake-y
- No weird or unwanted settling in pores or fine lines
General Cons of the Fit Me Foundation
- Doesn’t have a pump.
- Requires some touch ups to stay matte for a full day’s length of wear
- It IS noticeable on the skin. If you prefer a light-weight foundation, you might find this a bit too heavy
And those are my overall thoughts on the Maybelline Fit Me foundation! If you’ve given this foundation a try, let me know what you think about it in the comments. I know a lot of people swear by this foundation, so I’m interested to know what you think!
Also, if there are any drugstore makeup products you ADORE – share those as well. I’m enjoying getting back into drugstore makeup and would love some suggestions.
