Nicholas K opened New York Fashion Week on Thursday with a riveting Spring 2017 collection that’s surprisingly down to earth.
As is tradition, Nicholas K charged out of the gate at New York Fashion Week by completely blowing my mind. Every September and February brother/sister duo Nicholas and Christopher Kunz unveil their latest batch of genius – and the Spring/Summer 2017 collection was no exception.
Envisioning a landscape of narrow canyons and towering plateaus, the Kunz duo brought to life a dusty palette with a 47-look collection that featured expert drapery, woven fabrics, organic cotton – and vegetable dyed leather. Nicholas K is certainly not afraid of an abundance of texture. They’re also never dull.
Attending the show felt like a real treat because I could see first-hand the parachuting fabrics as they trailed after models on the runway. Nicholas K did live-stream the show on their website and I’ll be on the hunt for video so I can link that for you.
After Fall 2016’s collection, Nicholas K veered away from darkness and into the light. Gone is the moody palette and in its place are earth tones – with a little splash of metallic thrown in for good measure. (Because, like I said, Nicholas K is never dull.)
One things for sure, I can always count on Nicholas K to ignite my passion for fashion week. I left Thursday’s show feeling inspired…to parade across the desert. Except, in fashion week world – my desert was 33rd St. (But trust me, the temperature was scorching!)
We can always count on Nicolas and Christopger Kunz to deliver. Here are 10 of my favorite looks from the Nicholas K SS16 collection that have me ready to storm the Grand Canyon.
And of course, visit Nicholas K’s website here to feast your eyes on more ingenious garments that will make you (no doubt) the coolest person in the room.
