This season, at the forefront of my wardrobe dreams is: velvet fashion!
Hello, loves! Today’s post takes me a back a bit, to the days when I would twirl around in velvet party dresses at the holidays and birthday parties. Velvet has always had a pristine way of making me feel warm, luxe and beautiful – even when I was in the single digit age bracket.
In my junior high years, things took a brief awkward turn when ‘crushed velvet’ was big on the scene. I got it in my mind that I somehow looked great in it. Feeling quite proud of myself, a favorite moonstone-colored crushed velvet top was heavily rotated through my wardrobe while strutting the halls at school and attending long ‘confirmation’ events at church. Since then, I had an epiphany: no, crushed velvet is not actually a good look on me. Velvet, however? YES, PLEASE!
Fortunately for us all, velvet fashion seems to be making somewhat of a comeback this season and retailers are delivering everything from velvet dresses, to adorable booties, skirts, tops and even handbags. Of course, we have Dolce and Gabbana to thank for keeping velvet at the forethought of modern fashion, with their longstanding commitment to sending luxe embellished garments down the runways of Milan. While we might not all have a spare $5,000 hanging around for a mini DG haul, we can follow their inspiration in finding more affordable options.
