It’s become a biannual tradition: me melting over Creatures of the Wind at New York Fashion Week…and lemme tell you, Fall/Winter 2015 is no exception. Foolish, FOOLISH of me to think I’d be able to pass up a good old Creatures OTW gush-fest this season. Blasphemy! I got a massive late start on my NYFW prep, but what can I say? Those gems Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters (founders, creators, dream makers!) sure know how to get me scrambling a post together in the 9th hour when I should be prepping for tomorrow’s big day.
Behold Creatures of the Wind’s Fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, featuring a very downtown blend of plaid, metallics and browns that would make any city girl’s heart burst with glee!
I think what I like best about Creatures of the Wind is the unconventional approach to a classic. Take plaid for example. The word plaid comes with immediate thoughts of prepster, but rough it up a little with some fringe, add in cutouts, pair it some very sporty go-go booties and we have a whole new, not-boring-at-all thing. Suddenly we’re taking a tried and true staple, and modernizing it for today’s power lunch woman who absolutely does not CARE what went down at the country club last weekend.
For Fall 2015, Creatures even even dapples in florals, but unexpectedly pairs them with metallics and a muted brown palette. Definitely a far cry from the ‘pretty’ florals we all ooo and aah over at houses like Erdem and Giambattista Valli. Creatures of the Wind has an undisputed urban aesthetic. While born in Chicago, the brand currently resides in NYC and I quite like this unapologetic approach to dressing. It’s free, without any frilly muss or fuss to weigh you down.
Creatures of the Wind’s Fall 2015 RTW paints a very pleasing landscape for Fall…and one that’s aptly brown! Being an auburn haired gal myself, I’m quite found of my browns and enjoy seeing them explored in evening wear. I especially love brown when paired with metallic silver! (Which is quite the unexpected surprise that really REALLY works, wouldn’t you say?)
Of course, I can’t escape without at least touching on the makeup, because the Creatures of the Wind runway is also one I look to for beauty trends. (As if I could ever forget that bold orange lip they rocked a couple season back. Aka, the orange lip that started a full on frenzy!) For Fall 2015, both the hair and face are kept natural but fresh. Dewy, glowing skin, a full brow and not much else! See:
