6 books that top my reading list for summer 2016!
With summer, comes a raised interest in reading! Lounging by the pool. Sitting inside as a summer storm rages on outside. It’s an exciting time to dive deep into a fictional world whether you’re on vacay or enjoying your summer at home. Which is good — because so far, I’ve been in a real reading slump this year and it’s time to get cracking! (Seriously, I don’t even log onto GoodReads anymore…because, it’s so shameful.)
Don’t know about you, but I am seriously always on the hunt for good book recommendations. Today, I want to share my summer reading with list you – because I’m confident there are some strong ones on it! Some of these books have been on my ‘to read’ list for a while now, some are exciting new releases and others are hot topic books I just can’t stop hearing about!
My summer reading list includes everything from mystery and thriller, to intense emotional drama, a fairy tale and even a witty debut. Time to get reading!
6 Books I’m Excited to Read in Summer 2016!
The Girls by Emma Cline
Who doesn’t love a creepy poolside read? Perhaps my most anticipated read of Summer 2016 is The Girls. The story follows teenage Evie, a lonely California girl that is brought into the world and infamous cult of Charles Manson. Enthralled by their free-living lifestyle, she’s unaware of the extreme violence coming closer and closer her way. This ones already dubbed to become a movie!
Just Fall by Nina Sandowsky
The book description poses the question: how can you find out the person you love is a killer…and continue loving them anyway? You’ve got me. The story follows Ellie who’s life is essentially perfect. Things take a dark turn, however, when the happy newlywed discoveries her perfect husband has some pretty dark secrets in his closet and blood on his hands. Honeymoon period, over.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
This has been hanging out on my iPad for a while now and with the release of the live-action Beauty and the Beast trailer, I’m ready to dig in. I’ve actually started reading this one already…and it’s a fun retelling of Beauty of the Beast. Feyre is forced to leave her family behind and live in a magical kingdom where mystery looms. If you like this one, definitely check out Sarah’s Throne of Glass series that’s another perfect blend of fairy tale and action.
A Light Between the Oceans by M.L. Stedman
Having collected dust on my bookshelf for some time now, I am finally going to read this popular novel that is soon to be a movie. Tom and his wife Isabel live in remote Australia, looking after a lighthouse. One day, baby washes ashore and from there the story unfolds. They take claim to the child, thinking her a gift from God, and name her Lucy. Years later when they return to the mainland…they learn there are very real consequences to their actions.
Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler
A debut novel, Sweetbitter follows 22-year-old Tess on her move from small town Ohio to Manhattan. In a vibrant city, she dabbles in love-lust-champagne and cocaine on her lively transformation from girl to woman. In the city that never sleeps, this promises to be one fun and juicy read!
Imagine Me Gone by Adam Haslett
Imagine Me Gone is the sentimental family drama of the year I just KNOW I’m going to love. Last year I devoured We Are Not Ourselves (through tears..so beautiful, Read my review, here) and this year it’s going to be a family’s ups and downs through the years as they deal with depression and potential suicide. Maybe not the most uplifting subject matter for summer, but I just know this is going to,be one seriously powerful and moving story I won’t soon forget.
As always, stay stylish and keep chasing your dreams!
XOXO
