Meet Yiqing Yin, who became a permanent fixture on the haute couture schedule this week in Paris. Yin’s strong Spring 2016 couture collection walked the French runways while celebrating the strength of the female form. Let’s review, shall we!
One great thing about Dream in Lace is having a platform to introduce rising talent in the fashion industry, and Yiqing Yin absolutely the fits the bill. With her looks popping up on the red carpets and the acceptance by the French Chambre Syndical de la Haute Couture (aka, the haute couture panel) – things are certainly on the move for Yin.
For Yiqing Yin’s Spring 2016 couture collection, the focus was on classic styles of draping, using rich materials like silk and fur. She designed for the resilient woman, who rises, reinvents and remains. “Her strength is her beauty. – A powerful and paradoxical woman who builds her armor with all that remains, with an instinctive gesture.” I love the collection for its strength and mix of color and textiles. There’s something undeniably beautiful about a woman designing clothes for the modern warrior that lies within her, me and you – all the same. Her designs have an elegant fierceness that is undeniably beautiful and has me excited for her future in fashion. A French atelier lead by a woman? Oh. Yes.
Standout looks of the collection for me are a chainmail mesh jumpsuit, a sweeping iridescent organza gown and the finale look made of LED lights and piano strings that perfectly embodies the light within Yiqing Yin’s woman.
Yiqing Yin’s spring collection is definitely catching a lot of buzz, and with good reason. It definitely stands out from the demure and refined gowns shown on most of the couture week runways. I think it’s a great thing to march to the beat of your own drum, and the rising career of Yin is inspiring and forecasts many great collections to come!
