Let’s skip the usual ohmygod – August went by so fast! – and get down to it: I frickin’ LOVE September! So bye August, bye bye!
Let’s move onto the dog days, my favorite days of summer. Pre-Fall has got to be my second favorite season, second of course to Fall itself. (And, yes – I do operate on the seasons of fashion, not the sun and the moon. It’s who I am, okay!) September itself is definitely my favorite month of the year because it’s filled with my favorite things: hot days and cool nights, sweaters with shorts, the return of football and of course…New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Week. (But we’ll get to that on Wednesday.)
Of course, while thrilled to see August go, I do need to take a moment and give snaps where credits do to the beauty tidbits that got me through the month. Which honestly, for me wasn’t that much of a great one. It weighed in at a solid ‘meh’.
But enough of the intro, let’s get down to it: My August Beauty Favorites!
While I wasn’t a huge fan of the compact this brush came with (highlighter, Orgasm and Laguna trio)…I quite like this little wizard. I find this to be the ultimate at applying highlighter. It’s got a smaller size, that’s perfect to sweep over your cheekbones, without hitting any other outside areas along the way. It is also quite good at sculpting cheekbones, if you’re into the whole contour thing.
I picked this up in a recent haul, and have been using it religiously ever since. It’s refreshing, clarifying, clean and super affordable. What’s not to love?
Smashbox Cherry Smoke Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette
If you saw my recent review of this palette, (here) you know I’m quite smitten with it. And now that we’re easy into full on fall territory – I don’t have to hold back. Which I absolutely did in August because this palette is very autumn oriented and I didn’t want to appear like I was rushing things. If you’re yet to try this, I seriously suggest you get to your nearest Ulta or Sephora asap.
MAC Cosmetics Girl About Town Lipstick
You know when you really love something, but somehow always forget to wear it? That’s my relationship with MAC’s Girl About Town, which is definitely in my Top 10 Favorite MAC Lipsticks of All Time (if not in the Top 5). Every time I wear a lipstick of the Amplified range, I wonder why I wear anything but? They’re so gorgeously pigmented with a beautiful satin finish, but that’s not even what counts. What counts is that these lipsticks last FOREVER! Seriously. They’re not even considered Pro-Longwear lipsticks, and yet I can put this on in the morning, eat and drink my way through the day and it’s still there at 5 o’clock. Whoever discovered this formula deserves some kind of an international prize of awesomeness.
Stila Convertible Blush in Gerbera
Another product from my August Beauty Haul is this beauty of a cream blush from Stila. I know I’ve sung praises of Stila quite a bit on this blog, but I’ve literally yet to be disappointed by them. They get it done every time. I find this works best when stippled onto your cheeks – so I use my MAC 180 brush to do that and it stays put for quite some time. The color is also gorgeous and quite flattering at warming up your face. Haven’t tried this on the lips, and probably won’t, but it’s nice to know in a pinch I could!
Sephora by OPI Sephora Nail Polish
It was at Marshall‘s that I picked up a trio of Sephora by OPI nail polishes – and ever since, I wished I knew a way to get more of them. I dare say, this may be my favorite nail polish formula ever. And as a longtime fan of OPI, it feels a bit odd to rank something over them, especially when they’re involved – but whatever they did to change their formula for Sephora is magic. These are the smoothest, glossiest nail polishes ever. The red here is absolutely my favorite red. It looks so cheery on your nails and also lasts a super long time, even without a top coat (which I often forget to apply because of how shiny these are). Seriously, OPI and Sephora need to team up again immediately!
