When it comes to mixing prints, I think we can all agree Roberto Cavalli and Just Cavalli are the masters, and the Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear Collection presented at Milan Fashion Week was only further proof of that. They mix loud prints like it’s their business, and I guess it sort of us. The business of print heavy and loose breathy designs that will make you drool, literally.
MFW : Fendi Spring 2015 Collection
It was basically the crack of dawn when Fendi‘s Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear Collection hit the runways of Milan Fashion Week Thursday, at least in my safe little corn of Eastern Standard Time in America, and oh what a beauty it was to wake up to! I literally sat yawning my way through a cup of coffee, zapping myself awake with each look. It was a Spring collection for the masses – as in, everyone is going to be love this!
The show opened with supermodel (and everyone’s girl crush) Cara DeLevingne walking the runway with in flirty shift dressed, decorated with a cool and mellow print. Hair and makeup match the laid back vibes, with minimal makeup except a pastel liner to the eyes. Cara also sported possibly the SMALLEST handbag known to man, literally. It’s basically like a doll-sized handbag, and while cute, I have to wonder: can you even get an iPhone 6+ into that thing? Because obviously smart phones growing to tablet-size proportions, (are we soon going to make calls from our iPads?) we have to be aware of your handbag being able to keep up with the demands! Even though they are tiny, they’re still probably 10 times the price of Luxurytastic’s Fake Designer bags! I know there I would rather spend my money.
MFW : Moschino Goes Barbie Girl for Spring 2015 Collection
When Jeremy Scott took over Moschino for a very McDonald’s inspired Fall 2014 Collection (here), I liked it. It was fresh, fun and had a sense of humor. But is there a limit to this campy approach to high fashion? Is one collection a nice trend – but a series of collections overboard?
Enter Moschino and the Barbie Girl inspired Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear Collection shown at Milan Fashion Week Thursday. It’s pink! It’s fun! It’s cute! But is it a bit troublesome as a predictor for future collections from the Italian fashion mega-house? Are we going to accept comedic and poppy collections, or will we demand a more sophisticated aesthetic?
I’m torn – and I predict by how conflicted I am about this collection that by next season, I’ll be BEYOND over it. I mean, we all love a good joke. But is it acceptable to design spoofy collections season after season? Doesn’t that become a bit redundant and predictable – which is what we try to run away from in the fashion world?
I thought the question was too interesting to go ignored so let’s take a vote! What do YOU think about this Barbie collection? Is it a nice follow-up to McDonalds and Sponge Bob of last season? Or, are you already moving on?
MFW : Prada Hits the Antarctic for Spring 2015 Collection
When the opening look of Prada‘s Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear Collection started things off like this – I grew very, VERY afraid! Perhaps I’m still feeling the disappointment of Gucci‘s very autumnal Spring 2015 shown yesterday (here)…but opening a spring collection with a winter coat ticked me off from the get-go. Sorry! (Not sorry!)
In case you need an official announcement: FALL does NOT qualify as the new SPRING!
Honestly, there is no collection between Spring to Summer. There’s no Resort to bring in a maxi dress – or Pre-Fall to splice things up. This is what Prada wants us to wear in the sweltering heat? Are they JOKING? Maybe they’ve missed them memo – but we’re in the middle of a climate change – as in warming, not as in arctic temperatures in the month of July.
MFW : Alberta Ferretti Spring 2015 Collection
Alberta Ferretti certainly did not disappoint for the Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear Collection, shown at MILAN Fashion Week. Yes, Milan Fashion Week is finally here! I feel like all through New York and London Fashion Week I was pulling a Kanye West all, “Hey New York Fashion Week, I’mma let you finish girl but I just want to say Milan Fashion Week is the best fashion week of all time!”
Seriously, how rude could I get? 😉
Anyway – it’s finally here and Day 1 presented a gorgeous Alberta Ferretti for spring. It had a cool blend of breezy spring looks, with western influences. Definitely a cool, semi-retro to the 70’s collection.
MFW : Gucci Spring 2015 Collection
I have to say, Gucci‘s Spring 2015 Collection wasn’t quite what I expected. Then again, if you asked I’d have no idea what to tell you I expected so maybe I’m being too critical. Don’t get me wrong, I do love it – it just felt VERY Versace Fall 2014 to me (here), which was a really odd decision. Obviously the world of fashion knows what Versace is doing, so to emulate that – even down to the denim – the very next season seems like a very odd choice.
One cool thing I loved was the use of orange. Typically Fall is the season that owns orange, but with the orange lip trend blowing up – it’s interesting to see it make a statement for spring in the clothing department (and not just on the lips!). That said, paired with purple it does look very autumnal….
(Is there anything about this collection that didn’t feel weird to me? I don’t know…)
