A spring drugstore makeup that’s “pretty in pink” and perfect for adding some color to your day.

Looking at the calendar, I can scarcely believe we’re already inching towards the end of April. Considering what we’ve been loving through over the last several weeks, it seems like time has been at a stand still. But, May well and truly is just around the corner. Believe or not!
Spring Drugstore Makeup Look
I have to admit, while living in quarantine – some days I can’t be bothered at all to do anything with my face. Then, there are days when I sit down at my vanity and want to put something together to lift my spirits. There’s a comfort that comes in applying makeup – even at time when we’re not going anywhere. It’s something I enjoy for myself and it helps provide some sense of normalcy during such an abnormal time.
Sitting at my vanity Friday morning, I knew I wanted to play with some color. I at watching Amelia Liana‘s latest vlog and bopping around my drawers. The Essence Hey LA eyeshadow palette is such a beauty and I wanted to create a look around it. From there? A cheery spring drugstore makeup look was born and I wanted to share it with you in hopes of lifting your spirits too.
Step 1: The Wet n Wild Photofocus Foundation
Even with a wealth of options to choose from, I can’t stop myself from reaching for the Wet n Wild Photofocus foundation again and again. It has great coverage, is lightweight on the skin and lasts for ages! It also holds up really well against the weather, making it perfect for a spring drugstore makeup look because of how all over the place springtime weather can be.
I dab the foundation on my cheeks, my forehead, nose and chin. Then, go in with a buffing brush to blend it all out!
Step 2: Add Concealer
If you’ve not yet tried it, the ELF Camo concealer is a major winner! It’s full coverage with a beautiful creamy consistency. I wear it atop foundation as in this spring drugstore makeup look – but also on its own. Either way, it works beautifully and I look forward to repurchasing it again and again.
Dab this around as needed and buff out with a blending brush, beauty blender or even your finger!
Step 3: Set with Powder
You can really use any old powder you like, but on this day I reached for Rimmel’s translucent Stay Matte powder. It’s very soft on the skin and has a nice, lightweight consistency.
Apply powder all over your face with a brush or puff to set the foundation and concealer in place.
Step 4: Bronze the Skin
Next up? Add some warmth and dimension to your complexion with a little bronzer. The Maybelline City Bronzer is a big favorite of mine, but any bronzer will do.
Apply bronzer below your cheekbones, along the jawline and on your temples. If you’re feeling especially fancy, you can also do a little contouring of the nose. Have fun with it!
Step 5: Add a Pink Highlight
I picked the Wet n Wild Halo highlighting duo up from Target recently and love it! It comes in three color options and is dubbed a “blushlighter” – meaning you can use it as a combination blush and highlighter.
For this spring drugstore makeup look, we’ll be using the pink shade in the “Highlight Bling” duo. Add this to your cheekbones, the tip of your nose and in the center of your forehead for a nice rosy glow.
Step 6: Prime Your Eyelids
Next, we’re going to tackle the eyes (the most fun part). To start off, I like to prime my eyelids using the Wet n Wild eyeshadow primer. If you don’t have that, no worries. Concealer works just as well too!
Step 7: Onto the Eyeshadow
Now we move onto the star of this entire spring drugstore makeup look, the eyeshadow! I’m using the Essence Hey LA palette, but go ahead and use whatever you have in your collection if you don’t have this on hand. The idea is to create a pretty pink eyeshadow look that will add a cheerful splash of color to your day.
CREATE A NEUTRAL BASE (1)
Using a large shader brush or your finger, apply the matte neutral shade all over your lidspace and up to your brow bone to create a nice foundation.
PINK IT UP (2)
Using a blending brush, pack the magenta pink color into the outer crease of your eye and blend inwards. Take your time, building and blending the color as you go.
ADD SOME CHAMPAGNE (3)
To add balance and soften the boldness of the bright pink, add the neutral champagne pink shade on the inner half of your eyelid with your finger. Blend into the pink shadow for effect, almost like sherbert!
ROUND OUT LOWER LASH LINE (4)
To bring the eyeshadow look together, blend the matte warm brown shade along your lower lash line. This both softens the look and nicely ties things together.
Step 8: Apply Liquid Eyeliner (Optional)
With poppy pink eyeshadow as the star of this spring drugstore makeup look – eyeliner is entirely optional.
If you do like some help defining your eyes, go ahead and apply some liquid liner very lightly across your upper lash line. This will add definition to the look without being too dramatic or distracting. Right now, I’m enjoying the Loreal superslim Infallible liner.
Step 9: Apply Mascara
Finish off the eyes with your favorite drugstore mascara! I have many favorites, but for this look in particular reached for the new Loreal Bambi mascara. It has a plastic applicator that is great for separating the lashes and adds quite a bit of curl that lasts all day long.
Step 10: Fill in Your Brows
Touch up your brows with your favorite brow gel. At the moment, I’ve been liking the Brow Sculpt from Maybelline. There’s no need to use that product specifically though, so go with whatever you have on hand and follow your typical brow routine.
If you like, you can also use the deep brown shade from the eyeshadow palette to fill in your brows with an angled eyeshadow brush. I’ve done that several times and quite like the bold effect!
Step 11: Pucker Up with Pink
To complete this spring drugstore makeup look, I added some pink to my lips!
The lipstick I’m wearing above is Maybelline’s “Pink and Proper”. It has a smooth, creamy formula but also adds a somewhat metallic sheen to the lips that’s fun. Any lipstick will do, though, for this “pretty in pink” drugstore look.
