Can you believe this review of OPI’s Gelato on My Mind polish from their new ‘Venice Collection’ is the FIRST nail polished to be reviewed on Dream in Lace? I know. I scarcely believe it myself. But, after a dig through the archives I find that OPI is about to pop my cherry!
A thing I admittedly suck at? Painting my nails. Sure, I’ve seen people who are far worse than me – but am I one of those girls that can miraculously pull of a manicure that looks like it came from a salon? Lord no. So, don’t expect perfection when you look at my nails. Odds are, I did them myself during a commercial break of Real Housewives of New York on a whim.
I have been on the hunt for the perfect ‘minty-blue’ as I would call it, and when OPI released their Venice Collection, I finally found it in Gelato on My Mind. It was one of those showstopping shades that literally stopped me in my tracks and had me running to the cashier at Ulta. (Who, by the way, also fell in love at first sight.)
A longtime fan of OPI, I was eager to get home and throw this on. My “tan”, (not sure you could qualify this faint glow of mind as an actual tan) seemed like the perfect time to go ahead and try it out. After all, it might be one of those colors that accentuates my albino-ness in the winter. Yup, August. Definitely the time to go for pastels!
One bit of praise for all OPI nail polishes, (after the fact that they have brilliant shade names) is the true longevity you will get out of a polish. For this reason, my nail polish collection is basically 60 percent OPI, and a mixture of Essie, H&M and whatever odd bits I got in a subscription box from that point. Does Gelato on My Mind withstand the legacy of a lasting finish? Oh, yes. I just applied this polish for the 3rd time – and I’ve gotten about 6-7 days out of it with each round till now. It’s so nice, in fact, that I’d wager this would hold up pretty well even without a top coat.
How does it finish? Well. Nicely, but not perfectly. Don’t think OPI’s Gelato on My Mind will be one of those “one coat and you’re done” polishes, because with this one..you do need to build it up. Two coats for sure, a third if you really want a solid finish. The first coat is pretty streaky, which made me very nervous at first…but it will smooth out as you add the second coat. Of course, bear in my mind that I’m absolutely not a professional and have absolutely no technique what-so-ever. In other words, on you…it might work completely differently.
What made me want to step up to the plate and give Gelato on My Mind a review, though – is the amount of compliments I’ve received on my nails over the past couple of weeks. People have become a bit crazed in the presence of this nail polish. To the point, where complete strangers have stopped – turned direction and asked me what polish it is. I very proudly assert “OPI’s ‘Gelato on my Mind’…Venice Collection,” and they all nod with a glimmer of “I should’ve known it was OPI.”
When a nail polish is a conversation piece, you know it’s a good one. And, since the Venice Collection is out for only a limited time, I suggest you high tail it to your local drugstore or Ulta to snatch this up! Oh sure, there are similar shades out there from Essie and Sephora’s Formula X…but none have really nailed that perfect pastel green/blue quite like ‘Gelato on My Mind’ does.
On that note, I’m off to indulge in some popcorn and Netflix. A summer storm is rolling in, making it prime time to find a good haunting mystery. Do let me know if you pick this polish up! And, if you have any suggestions for other shades to try, spill! 🙂
Do you love thunderstorms as much as me?

I’ve never actually Tried any OPI polishes, it’s a shame it’s not a one coat wonder but the overall look is stunning 🙂
