Let’s get dramatic and dig into the Pat McGrath Dark Star 006 V2 eye kit!

Sometimes I contemplate starting a spin-off website entitled “Pat McGrath Stan” because more and more that’s who I am.
With everything I try from her namesake makeup line, I fall more and more in love with not just the quality of the Pat McGrath Lab products — but how different they are from anything else on the market. She is truly in a league of her own!
So naturally, when it was revealed the Pat McGrath Dark Star 006 V2 eye kit was being re-released as a limited edition kit for spring – I found myself ordering it the very moment it dropped. While I missed this kit the first time around, a little research led me to discover it originally came out way back in Spring 2017.
Tucked inside? Everything you need to create a bold, smoky and electric eyeshadow look that mesmerizes. Sounds pretty fantastic, right? I thought so and have been having so much fun playing with it!
Pat McGrath Dark Star 006 V2 Eye Kit
Inside Pat McGrath’s limited edition Dark Star 006 V2 eye kit you’ll find three products for creating a rather dramatic look:
- Full-sized PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil in ‘XTREME BLACK’
- Pressed “Ultraviolet Blue” pigment
- Cyber Clear Eye Gloss
Three Items for $46
Considering Pat’s creamy gel liner alone is usually priced at $28, this kit turns out to be quite the value if you ask me.
“Ultraviolet Blue” Pressed Pigment
Immediately upon opening the Dark Star 006 V2 eye kit, I was swooning over the richness and vibrancy of the Ultraviolet Blue shadow. I have several Pat McGrath palettes (among others) in my collection but none feature a shade quite like this one.
And when dubbed “Ultraviolet Blue”, she is not kidding. The shadow really does toe the line of two different colors nicely. It’s not quite blue. It’s not quite purple. Instead, it’s a happy marriage of the two that’s bold and quite eye catching.
A Word of Caution
Knowing how strongly Pat’s standard eyeshadow formula performs, I expected the pressed pigment would be loaded with punch and lasting power. What I didn’t expect was it to be so powerful it comes with it’s own warning label! That’s right. An eyeshadow so strong it comes with a note of caution.
Inside thew kit is a slip of paper that details everything about each product, including a message that the Ultraviolet Blue pigment can potentially stain the eye lids. Given that I use an eyeshadow primer religiously I didn’t run into this problem, but it does take some extra time with my waterproof makeup remover to completely clean up my eyes at the end of the day.
Now THAT is something!
The Permagel Liner
If you’ve not yet tried Pat McGrath’s Permagel liner, allow me to introduce you! This hands down is the smoothest pencil eyeliner I have ever used. The gel formula glides evenly to the eye almost like a liquid liner, but it has the ability to be blended and smudged out for a beautiful smoky effect.
Last year, I attended a few masterclasses led by Pat and her team of makeup artists where they revealed secrets behind their famous high fashion runway looks. It was amazing to me how much they rely on this liner, using it to line the eyes of course but also as a black eyeshadow. Since then, I’ve had fun discovering what a multi-functional product this liner is and it’s one I’ll now never be without.
So, with that testimonial out of the way — it makes for an obvious addition to the Pat McGrath Dark Star 006 V2 eye kit.
The Cyber Clear Eye Gloss
Last but not least, included in the eye kit is the holographic eye gloss and I’d be lying if I didn’t say this is what really sold me on the Pat McGrath Dark Star 006 V2 kit as a whole.
Eye toppers in general are a great way to transform any eyeshadow look. The reflective properties of this gloss got the wheels in my ming thinking of the new dimensions it would bring to so many of my other shadows. And I was not wrong with this assumption!
Applied to the lid, the gloss catches the light in such a beautiful way. It also enhances whatever shadow lies beneath — bringing a striking wet look to the eyes.
Be Careful with Creasing
I suspected this might be the case but I have to share that the gloss does crease.
So when applying, stick to just the lids without blending up towards the brow bone.
