Breaking down how to be Princess Eleanor, everyone’s favorite obnoxious and fashionable, make-believe princess on The Royals.
If you’re not watching The Royals, I highly suggest your start. It’s the most fun, dishy and fashionable show since Gossip Girl – with lots of eye candy. The show (which is available on Amazon Prime) follows a fictional Royal Family in the United Kingdom. The fabulous Elizabeth Hurley is the queen – and her mother is played by Joan Collins. I mean, HELLO! Can you get more juicy and glamorous than that?
Since the dawn of Dream in Lace, my “How to Be” series continues to be among the most popular of all time. From my discussion on how to be Scream Queen‘s Chanel Oberlin, to Gossip Girl‘s Blair Waldorf and Pretty Little Liars’ entire cast – month after month these posts fall in the top 10 pages.
And so, it seems – like me, you really want to learn how to be some of your favorite, fashionable and snarky television characters.
Meet Princess Eleanor
That brings me to The Royals and Princess Eleanor, who is a really enjoyable character. As kind of the “black sheep” of the royal family, she wears flashy clothes, has a bit of a drug problem and is layered with attitude but rooted in vulnerability. Recently I devoured season 3 and while catching up, I started to think about how to be Princess Eleanor.
Princess Eleanor is played by Alexandra Park, who has a striking resemblance to Kristen Stewart.
On the show, we watch Princess Eleanor navigate family drama, a hot and cold relationship with her bodyguard Jasper and experience the highs and lows of being Britain’s princess. Pulling inspiration from the great Princess Eleanor, let’s walk through how we can be and dress like her – with all the attitude!
How to be Princess Eleanor? Tip 1: Rebel
From the very first episode, we see that Princess Eleanor is indeed a bit rebellious. From late nights dancing on tables at clubs, to scowling at public appearances and enjoying recreational drugs in her bedroom – she’s definitely NOT Kate Middleton.
How to be Princess Eleanor? Tip 2: Family First
Despite her attitude, deep down Princess Eleanor truly is all about her family. She idolizes her father, adores her brothers and connects strongly with her mother (although she doesn’t like to admit it). Family is Eleanor’s biggest soft spot.
How to be Princess Eleanor? Tip 3: If You’re Gonna Cry, Do So in Private
Princess Eleanor has a hard, sarcastic exterior that makes her very tough on the surface. Beneath? She’s a confused, insecure girl who really just isn’t as sure of herself as the world thinks she is. Truth is, there’s no shame in being a bit of an emotional mess – but in Princess Eleanor’s world, that’s better kept in private.
How to be Princess Eleanor? Tip 4: Put Your Game Face On
No doubt, being a princess comes with a lot of attention. In Princess Eleanor’s world, no matter how much your heart is breaking – keep your game face on in public and don’t let them see you fall.
How to be Princess Eleanor Tip 5: Always Come Out on Top
Competition is a good thing and winning is a must. Especially win it comes to her mother, Princess Eleanor is sharply determined to win in the end, no matter what. Even if that means fighting dirty to get there.
How to be Princess Eleanor Tip 6: Fashion with an Edge
While many princesses turn to a more feminine and classic aesthetic, not Princess Eleanor. Her wardrobe is rich with short skater skirts, plunging necklines and even metal. Her eyes are smoky and her eyeliner is smudged. She’s also not afraid of a little (or a lot) of bronzer to carve out her cheekbones.
Now, How to Dress Like Princess Eleanor?
In terms of dressing like Princess Eleanor, you’ll want to gravitate towards feathers, studs, metallics, plunging necklines, skater dresses and skirts and, of course, killer heals.
For your shopping pleasure, I’ve pulled together an assortment of items worthy of Princess Eleanor’s attention. Now, you can be an edgy princess just like her. They’re definitely pieces that wouldn’t fit your average plain Jane, but they’re a lot of fun and best worn with a lot of confidence.
If you’re not yet watching The Royals, I highly suggest you check it out. It’s silly good fun with striking fashion and drama. It’s one of those guilty pleasure show you can’t turn away from and these days, who doesn’t want that? Seasons one and two are available for streaming on Amazon Prime and season 3 is currently on demand. (At least for me..?)
Now, Who Next?
Let me know if there are other fashionable female characters I should explore in my ongoing “How to Be” series. I’m definitely planning to pull one together on Claire Underwood from House of Cards(LOVE) but welcome your ideas! What other stylish, badass female characters out there? Share!
Stay stylish and keep chasing your dreams!
XOXO
