A Blue Christmas outfit and an adorable newfie? Winning!
In my honest opinion, you haven’t really lived until you’ve welcomed a Newfoundland into your life. You’re also not really living if you don’t have a pair of killer velvet boots in your closet either, but that’s just a given.
Today’s Blue Christmas outfit post features the most beautiful co-star there ever was: Ruthie the Newfie. On a very crisp winter morning (hello, 7 degrees), she joined me in the sunshine to show off her beautiful coat. Mine’s DKNY but her’s is all her own and decidedly MUCH warmer. As I shivered and turned numb, she felt right at home in the cool temperatures and surely longed for some fresh snow. She’s such a beauty isn’t she? Ruthie is one of my mom and step-dad’s three black Newfoundlands and has a very cherished place in my heart. Lucky for me, I think I hold a special place in her heart as well. It’s hard to believe that before she came into our family she was neglected. After all, who could neglect such a beautiful soul? Crazy!!
Of course – my Blue Christmas outfit is inspired by the Elvis classic, which is truly one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs. Feeling the holiday spirit, it was the perfect excuse to bust out these amazing velvet booties from the Who What Wear shoe collection at Target. When they released a clothing line it fell under my radar, but I was ALL about the shoes. Before their official release I would double tap the promos all over Instagram and Twitter. Yes, yes, yes! Who doesn’t love a good pair of booties, right?
In addition to being perfectly blue and velvet, they also feature a nifty paisley design that makes them a truly remarkable standout from the crowd this season. Velvet shoes have been making a come back and Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power made a definite mark by including the design. It takes them from awesome to out-of-this world status, don’tcha think?
If you’re curious about this dress, you should be!
I snatched this up at the J.Crew Factory Black Friday sale when I was in the midst of rewatching some Gossip Girl and dreaming of being Blair Waldorf. I thought the print was something Blair would particularly like and of course had to style it with a headband in her honor. If you’re quick, you can still pick the dress up on sale now, here!
Since the boots are kind of funky, I really liked the idea of pairing them with more classic pieces like the coat and printed dress.
We’re now just 9 days away from Christmas and my excitement is seriously starting to rise! If you’re still looking for some great Christmas gift ideas, on Wednesday I shared a list of 10 gift ideas that are guaranteed hits. Check out that post, here.
Last night I sat by the Christmas tree with a piping hot cup of peppermint tea and wrote out my Christmas cards. It was a really nice and quiet thing to do that also made me feel a bit giddy with the holiday spirit. This year’s been so crazy and everyone’s itching for it to end – with all that, it was nice to sit back and reflect on the great people and opportunities that 2016 brought. It’s definitely not been all bad, has it? I think not.
Anywho – wishing you a very happy weekend! We have just one more week of being able to blast Christmas music at full volume and watch an unhealthy amount of Christmas movies, we better enjoy it.
