Everyone loves a good fairy tale – Dolce and Gabbana included. Sunday, Italian’s iconic house unveiled a Fall/Winter 2016 collection in Milan that focused on fantasy, complete with a dreamlike fairy tale set and Cinderella-approved golden carriage.
There are some fashion week traditions I always look forward to, and Dolce and Gabbana‘s Sunday showing at Milan Fashion Week is one of them. Dolce is the opposite of dialed back and while you might not know where they are going for the new season, you can darn well guarantee there will be a theatrical stage complete with rich tapestries and gilded in gold when they get there. It’s the lavishness that people crave and adore from Dolce and Gabbana, and it makes their runway shows a true favorite of fashion month.
For Dolce and Gabbana, Fall 2016 is about fantasy. The collection played off motifs of classic fairy tales and a vibrant display of floral prints and sparkle. When Kate Bosworth took to the Golden Globes in a pink dress that sparkled to my heart’s delight (here), I just knew Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana had something pink in the wings for the Fall 2016 collection…and boy did they deliver.
One of Dolce and Gabbana’s ultimate signatures is a grande finale. To the tune of Sia’s Move Your Body, an army of glitter cascaded down the runway in pink and silver cocktail dresses.
Of course, before the sparkling finale…Dolce and Gabbana showed a vast 95-look collection that danced between fairy tales. Pulling influence from Snow White and Cinderella, we saw prints of apples, stopwatches and adorable seamstress mouses. The season’s fairy tale looks were intertwined with brand signatures like corset dresses, black lace and embellished footwear and accessories.
It’s fitting that Dolce and Gabbana discussed fantasy for Fall 2016, as they set the bar as the ultimate in fantastical design. Think about it. If we could transport Versailles through a fashion collection, Dolce and Gabbana would no doubt be called upon as the portal. For who else could deliver such decadence?
