As is custom at Dream in Lace, let’s talk the latest Dolce and Gabbana runway show at Milan Fashion Week. It’s a tradition that will hopefully continue for years to come, and today – it seems extra special as the Spring/Summer 2016 collection was a celebration of Italy itself. L’amore Italia, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana boasted as they presented a parade of 90+ looks honoring Italy’s rich culture and beauty.
But first, let me take a selfie.
Kick-starting their latest social media hashtag #DGSelfie, Dolce and Gabbana celebrated the modern phenomenon. Large monitors lined the room, rotating selfies captured backstage in preparation of the show. On the runway, models paused and held their embellished iPhone DG cases to take selfies that were later rotated on Instagram, of course. Say what you will about Dolce and Gabbana, who found themselves in hot water following last season’s “Mother” show as they spoke out against IVF…but, they have a knack for weaving modern pop culture into their rich, classic and elaborate presentations. They’re very aware of the world around them, and use that to connect with a broad audience and extend the reach of the brand. It’s genius, really.
As for the clothes, it was quite the scene.
For this post, I vowed to select just 10 favorites from the massive 100+ look collection — and it was no easy task. While many argue that Dolce and Gabbana is in a bit of a rut, you can’t deny that season after season they may march to the beat of the same drum, but at great length! Dolce’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection was a large undertaking, spanning from the brands signature bodices, ornate black lace and rose reds…to vibrant yellow prints, embellished headpieces, black and white striped garments, floral hoop-skirt dresses and even a lovely brush stroke print here and there. Watching the runway show, one is virtually on sensory overload. It’s major, guys. Major.
Here are my 10 favorite looks:
To summarize: there was A LOT happening on the runway. And, to think, Dolce and Gabbana usually release an additional lookbook collection each season. Talk about a true BODY of work the fashion house produces each season.
DG’s Spring/Summer 2016 Collection felt like a collection made not just for Italy, but as a touchstone of Milan Fashion Week. These days, it seems all eyes are on New York – and of course Paris, making Milan Fashion Week seem a bit lost in the middle. But with collections this rich and seductive from Dolce, Versace, Alberta Ferretti and more…Milan Fashion Week is a powerhouse of talent and the proof is on the runway.
This does wrap up Milan Fashion Week — and now all eyes will turn to Paris as we close out Fashion Month with a bang! Let me know, what shows would you most like to see reviewed from Paris?
