The White House Correspondent’s Dinner (aka, the #NerdBall as some call it) is one of those rare occasions when celebrities and the White House collide! This is my first time covering the dinner on Dream in Lace, and I’d be lying if rumors of Bradley Cooper‘s attendance wasn’t the *main* source of motivation.
What can I say? Man’s got game!
From Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen in Jenny Packham to Community‘s Gillian Jacobs, the guest list was quite a mishmash this year, and shockingly…I was sad to NOT see Kim Kardashian. In the past, I found her attendance at the event irritating – but after that whopper of an interview Friday with Bruce Jenner, I was actually EAGER to see a Kardashian. Say, what?
Right.
But, there were no Kardashians and overall I’d say the red carpet was pretty lackluster. It definitely didn’t bring as many A-list celebrities as in recent years. We didn’t even get EITHER of the Underwoods 🙁 (Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are past attendees). But, THANKFULLY no one showed up looking absolutely horrifying. Well, mostly anyway. Gabby and Jane Fonda looked kind of whack…
To me, Laverne Cox was the standout look of the night. The LGBT community has had quite a week, and to see her welcomed with open arms at the White House was satisfying and quite groundbreaking. Donald Trump also made appearance, teasing at a 2016 run…which may be why Ivanka Trump showed up looking like pageant queen Miss America.
I dunno guys, the red carpet just fell flat to me. What do you think?
Who nailed it? Who failed it?
