Confession: I’ve always wanted to learn how to moon walk. Now, I’m not saying Alexander Wang‘s Fall 2015 moon boots at New York Fashion Week will suddenly be able to make me walk on air…but I sure as heck would feel better about myself in them when I tried!
And if these shoes don’t make you want to clumsily stumble over your own feet to Michael Jackson’s category of hits, frankly…I just don’t know what you’re doing with your life. You could also argue that in addition to their moon walking capabilities, they’re a fun nod to the Hot Topic days that plague America’s youth. Apparently, all of us really DID go through that phase, Wang included. Do you think that means he made it to the Warped Tour each summer too? Because if Alexander Wang says it’s okay, I’ll totally dig out my old Good Charlotte and Sugarcult CDs for a jam session. #Throwback
In all seriousness, Alexander Wang has become the unofficial champion of NYFW in recent years, and while his clothing designs may or may not float your boat – we all agree the man KNOWS how to brazenly design a shoe (and a handbag). I still vote Wang came to us from the future, but for Fall 2015 the footwear plays a funky tribute to the good ole days…the punky days of youth when you really didn’t give a damn.
These patent leather, buckled and super high platform boots offset the ‘business casual’ vibes of the Fall 2015 clothing. And, while I doubt you’ll be rocking these on a trip to the copy room anytime soon – I do reckon they’ll be loads of fun when you pound the pavement of urban sidewalks in your down time. They’re also much spicier than the standard boots we’ve seen all over the fall runways (as you so often do). Leave it to Wang to once again take things in a new, unconventional direction. He’s the man!
I suppose we can’t escape discussing the clothing, even if just for a moment. This season, Alexander Wang featured one very prominent trend: metal studs. From socks and sweaters, to coats and bags…everything was embellished with some metal, only adding to Wang’s famous street style aesthetic.
The ballooned shapes of Spring 2015 were sidelined for much slimmer silhouettes, that featured some really intricate detailing. The embellishment is so beautiful, it makes me think of a really out there idea: Alexander Wang couture! I mean, can you IMAGINE what that collection would be like? Let’s all dream about it until it happens!
What can I say? Once again, Alexander Wang hit the nail perfectly on the head. His level of coolness keeps skyrocketing to new heights, and I’m starting to think NO ONE will ever be able to catch up. Right know, we’re seeing all sorts of inspiration from his Alexander Wang and Balenciaga collections navigating its way into other designers’ work, making me wonder: will gunmetal studs become the next trend on embellishment? Please make it so!
