MAC Stranger Things makeup collection has arrived — just in time to celebrate season 4 coming to Netflix!

Suffice to say, as soon as news of the MAC Stranger Things makeup collaboration hit my inbox I was all over it.

It’s been a long hiatus since season three premiered back in July 2019 and nearly three years and a pandemic later — I’m desperately ready to get back to Hawkins, Indiana. Stranger Things is an immersive show and the perfect mental escape from all the madness of the world. It’s also incredibly entertaining with a fantastic ensemble cast and soundtrack.

Charmed by the stylish Hawkins High-inspired collection, I picked a few pieces and am excited to review them for you below! Best Summer 2022 makeup collection? Possibly! It’s certainly the most fun.

MAC Stranger Things Makeup

In its entirety, the MAC Stranger Things makeup collection includes:

Two 8-Pan Eyeshadow Palettes

Lip Glass Liquid Lipsticks in Six Shades

The collection has a two-story theme that celebrates Stranger Things‘ famous red/black intro but also the cheerful and colorful nature of life in 1986. I was immediately smitten with the Varsity Hawkins High packaging and snatched up an eyeshadow palette and lip glass — as well as the powder brush because I was definitely in need of a new one!

Synthetic 140 Powder Brush

A couple weeks ago I accidentally broke the handle off of my powder brush and as it turns out? It was great timing to be in need of a replacement!

Upon using, I immediately fell in love with the design of the limited edition MAC Stranger Things makeup brush. Its curve works perfectly in the under eye and other contours of the face. Before MAC went fully synthetic with their brushes – they would get a bit scratchy with continued use. Fortunately there’s no longer an issue there! The synthetic bristles are very soft and maintain that softness through multiple washes.

LET’S TALK LIP GLASS

If you’re not familiar with MAC’s fantastic lip glass formula — the Stranger Things collection would be a great place to jump in! In total there are six shades available:

EERIE EL: Brownish Rose
EXCELLENT ERICA: Light Coral (pictured above)
MARVELOUS MAX: Bright Acid Green
ROCKIN’ ROBIN: Bright Red
SKULL ROCK: Black
WILD WHEELER: Bright Fuschia

CREAMY, HIGH GLOSS FORMULA

As you can tell in the swatches, the lip glasses are intensely pigmented and have a creamy application that’s extremely comfortable on the lips. This truly is a legendary formula from MAC and a product line that’s relatively unmatched on the market.

Let’s Chat Eyeshadow

The MAC Stranger Things makeup collection includes two 8-pan eyeshadow palettes with very different color stories. The Void Eyeshadow palette features smokey grays, black and red inspired by Stranger Things’ famous “Upside Down.”

On the opposite end of the spectrum?

The Hawkins High Eyeshadow palette that includes cheerful gemstone shades that pay homage to what the trends were in 1986. To be as cute and on-brand as possible, the shadows are also named after settings and lingo our favorite Stranger Things characters explore in the series.

With summer being the perfect time to play with color, the MAC Stranger Things makeup collection “Hawkins High” eyeshadow palette spoke straight to my heart.

Tucked inside are 8 eyeshadows, including:

DINGUS: Lime and gold duochrome
PALACE ARCADE: Deep bright shimmery purple
MELVED’S GENERAL STORE: Frosty saturated teal
STARCOURT MALL: Matte Barbie pink
BENNY’S BURGER: Matte warm brown
HAWKINS HIGH: Matte turquoise
SURFER BOY PIZZA: Champagne shimmer
U.S.S. BUTTERSCOTCH: Bronze threaded with silver pearl shimmer

Excellent Color Pay-Off

I’ll be honest and say it’s been a long time since I’ve purchased MAC eyeshadows and I decluttered the old ones I had from my collection. So the MAC Stranger Things makeup collection was a nice reintroduction into how pigmented they are and how smoothly they apply to the eyes. With just one swipe you get full-coverage color pay-off.

HOW DO THE SHADOWS PERFORM?

7 out the 8 shadows I’m super impressed with. The one I had a little issue with is the light champagne “Surfer Boy Pizza”. That shade does require a little bit more work and doesn’t wear as long as the other shadows. I found it primarily works best as a highlight.

Beyond that, the Hawkins High eyeshadows applied easily to the eyes with minimal effort. They’re densely pigmented and provide full-coverage with only a light touch. I didn’t pick up the 217S synthetic brush because I already have so many original 217 MAC blending brushes in my collection, but the shadows definitely blend out nicely as well.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

Did I just become a major MAC eyeshadow fan again? Yes. I certainly did!

I really love all the little details of this collection, from the shade names tying back to elements from the show to extras like the “Tiger” Hawkins High emblem included on the eyeshadow mirror. From start to finish, the MAC Stranger Things makeup collection is a great celebration of the Netflix show but also what MAC does best — excellent brushes, highly pigmented products that perform well and beautiful packaging.
