Reviewing the Tarte Maracuja Tinted Moisturizer! It’s lightweight, hydrating, vegan and quite possibly the perfect everyday base.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who has days where you want something somewhere in between a no makeup and full-makeup day.
I’m talking about days where you detest the thought of splashing a full coverage foundation on your face. And yet? You’d like a touch of coverage to cover up any redness or spots you may have.
And it’s on days like those that I find myself reaching for a tinted moisturizer. They deliver some color correction with a boost of hydration on the side. So naturally when Tarte (a brand I’ve trusted for years) released a modernized tinted moisturizer there was no passing it up.
The Tarte Maracuja Tinted Moisturizer
If I’m being totally honest. I’ve used Tarte’s original BB Tinted Moisturizer but didn’t love it. There are also a couple chronic issues that keep me from recommending that product to others:
- Limited shade range
- Often sold out
So when I spotted Tarte’s new Maracuja Tinted Moisturizer online and its vast selection of 20 shades, I was immediately impressed! It’s also much more affordable than the original formula and is also certified vegan. All wins!

What the Heck is Maracuja?
Maracuja is *drumroll* essentially another word for passion fruit. It’s found in the South American rainforests and oil is extracted from its seeds to provide a variety of benefits. Specifically, Maracuja oil is rich in Vitamin C and fatty acids. It’s said to balance moisture levels and help heal dry, chapped skin.
Additional Ingredients:
In addition to maracuja, obviously, the new Tarte Maracuja Tinted Moisturizer is formulated with a few additional ingredients to benefit your skin:
- HYALURONIC ACID to provide added moisture
- VEGAN COLLAGEN to firm the skin
- TURMERIC to reduce redness
- ALOE FLOWER to sooth
Excellent Shade Range
The tinted moisturizer is available in twenty shades — for varying undertones! Shades range from light to dark and are available in warm, cool and neutral. The shade I picked up is “20N Light Neutral”.
How to Apply?
Tarte suggests applying with your finger tips, but I actually prefer applying the tinted moisturizer with a buffing brush. I apply a dollop on the back of my hand and go in like I would any normal foundation.
Lightweight Formula with Natural Finish
As you would expect, the Tarte Maracuja Tinted Moisturizer is very lightweight on the skin. It’s actually virtually unnoticeable after you apply to your face, which of course is a big plus.
It does deliver a fair a amount of coverage though. Natural features of your skin (ala freckles) will shine through, but it nicely color corrects redness. Essentially, it’s a great “no makeup makeup” product.
Easy to Blend with Smooth Coverage
Whether you’re applying with a blush or with your fingers, the product blends nicely into the skin and does not exaggerate pores/fine lines. In the photos above, I’m wearing the product directly on my skin without a primer.
Long Wearing
In addition to being virtually weightless on the skin, the Tarte Maracuja Tinted Moisturizer is also pleasantly long-lasting. I was actually expecting coverage to kind of wear off after six hours or so, but it ultimately lasts all day long. I apply this in the morning over coffee and let it be the rest of the day without any issues.
Tarte Maracuja Tinted Moisturizer Rundown:
- Available in 20 shades with varying undertones
- Priced at $30 for 1 fluid ounce
- Available from Tarte as well as Sephora and Ulta
The Pros:
- Impressive color selection – especially against Tarte’s original tinted moisturizer
- Skin-loving ingredients (Maracuja, aloe, hyaluronic acid, vegan collagen, etc.)
- Formulated without parabens
- Coverage that’s even and lightweight
- Certified cruelty-free and vegan
- Long-lasting
- Easy to apply
The Cons:
- Does not contain an SPF (I WISH!!)
- Plastic packaging
Overall Grade: A-
I have to say, I’m kind of in love with the Tarte Maracuja Tinted Moisturizer. Maybe it’s because now is the perfect time to discover it given that we’re taking a more relaxed approach to our makeup routines, but it’s become a go-to base! I love how quickly I can whisk this on in the morning to feel somewhat pulled together. It’s super lightweight and truly does provide coverage all day long.
The biggest drawback for me is that it doesn’t include an SPF. If it did, I hands down would give this an A++++. Regardless, it’s a great product and one I hope Tarte keeps around for a very long time!!
