WHEN I TELL YOU I’VE TRIED A LOT OF FACIAL SERUMS, I MEAN A LOT!
Clinique. Ole Henriksen. Kiehl’s. La Mer. Lancome. L’Occitane. Perricone MD. Tata Harper. The list goes on! I’ve also worked my way through drugstore and while the closest thing I found to a serum I really liked was by No. 7 — I basically have remained the Goldilocks of facial serums.
Like Miss Goldilocks and her quest for the perfect porridge, I have been highly picky and unable to find a serum that is just right for addressing my anti-aging concerns while not completely irritating and stripping my skin of moisture. I’m cursed blessed with moderately sensitive skin and was long in need of a product that’s effective but doesn’t leave a lot painful tenderness in its wake.

WHAT IS IT?
The Lancer Advanced Retinol Treatment is a powerful nighttime serum that’s formulated with 1.25% Retinol with Bakuchiol – a plant-derived ingredient that targets signs of aging. The serum also uses Lancer’s CoRetinol Technology to soften the appearance of wrinkles while improving the skin’s texture and elasticity.

We all of course hear a lot about the power of collagen to strengthen the skin as well as our natural inability to maintain the same levels of collagen as we age. So it’s with good reason that “collagen” is such a buzz-worthy ingredient to incorporate in any anti-aging skincare routine.

MULTI-FUNCTIONAL PRODUCT THAT’S SAFE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN
Living with sensitive skin, a lot of the retinol treatments on the market leave my skin feeling irritated, inflamed and sometimes even in pain! It’s definitely a double -edged sword issue where I’m left weighing the anti-aging benefits of retinol against how irritating it can really be to me skin.
Fortunately, the Lancer serum manages to address those concerns with the addition of prickly pear extract. This powerful ingredient is highly effective in reducing signs of inflammation and redness of the skin while simultaneously hydrating the skin. The product also includes squalane – which is one of my favorite skin-loving ingredients as it is so beneficial in maintaining moisture levels.
Having these two super ingredients built into the serum makes it safe for sensitive skin. They also save added the time and effort of layering a series of additional products to balance the skin — something I’ve frequently had to do with other retinol alternatives. And as we know, cutting out extra steps saves both time and money!!
EASE INTO REGULAR USE
When first using the Lancer Advanced Retinol Treatment, “break in” the product similar to say a new pair of high heels.
Remember that it is a powerful serum and start by applying every other night or even every third to acclimate your skin to the retinol and collagen. By easing into using the product on a routine basis, you’ll avoid any unnecessary irritation.
Note: Don’t be alarmed if you notice any peeling in the first week. This is totally normal in the process of introducing retinol to your skincare routine and is temporary as your skin adjusts.
USE TWO PUMPS AND TWO PUMPS ONLY
Lancer strongly advises applying two pumps fo the serum – and no more – freshly cleansed skin and I have to concur.
The Advanced Retinol Treatment is a powerful product with a little bit truly going a long way. Applying additional serum is unnecessary, wasteful and may lead to irritation — even for those who don’t typically face skin sensitivity issues.
APPLY AT NIGHT AND ALWAYS WEAR SPF
While retinol is highly effective in any anti-aging skin routine – it does come with a downside. It makes your skin more vulnerable to damage from sun exposure — which could defeat the purpose of using it altogether.
To ensure your skin is best protected from sun damage, apply the Lancer Advanced Retinol Treatment at nighttime and ALWAYS wear an SPF in the daytime — even on cloudy days.
The Skin Cancer Foundation has found that clouds block only 20% of UV rays – so be sure to apply SPF every morning and reapply throughout the day. My current favorite is this SPF 50 from Clinique.
