From Balmain’s jetsetters to Hedi Slimane’s golden hoop skirt at Celine, meet the BEST PFW looks of the Fall 2021 season!
Well, fashionistas! The Parisian designers have been BUSY!! What traditionally is a 7-10 day event, Paris Fashion Week spilled over into being basically Paris Fashion SEASON with collections continuing to debut through March and April.
What we’re seeing is a big shake up to the fashion calendar that I think is proving to work really well. The inability to host in-person fashion shows at this time has prompted houses to shrug off the confines of the traditional schedule and present their newest collections when they are ready to — and in the grandest of fashions. Balmain took over an airport, Louis Vuitton the Louvre and Celine strutted its stuff on the grounds of Château de Vaux le Vicomte.
The reinvention of a fashion show during the pandemic is a game the French-showing brands played particularly well. It has also been a fun one for spectators around the globe to be continually inspired by the steady stream of new designs we’ve seen flowing from the the fashion capital over the last nine weeks.
And much like the festivities in NYC, London and Milan – it’s clear everyone is ready for life to resume this fall! Most, if not all, of the best PFW looks are itching for an appearance at some form of party in the future. Disco boots are making a resurgence as are metallic golds, bold prints and sequins. Virginie Viard even took over a nightclub for the Chanel presentation — with models getting ready for a night out before parading down a runway inside of a nightclub and then stumbling outdoors at dawn.
Loud and clear we’re getting the message that everyone in fashion is ready to start wearing great clothes again doing fun things! Let us hope these designers are able to manifest that into existence for us all.
Onto the Best PFW Looks
ALTUZARRA
Questionable footwear aside, this vibrant pleated print dress is DIVINE!!
BALMAIN
Olivier Rousteing and the Balmain gang are ready to JETSET come Fall 2021 and I’m right there with them. Really, the entire collection is fantastic but this coat coat is perfection. Paired with metallic trousers it’s not just one of the best PFW looks but one of the best looks of the ENTIRE Fall 2021 season.
CELINE
Excuse the fact that this isn’t the best photo. The Celine FW21 presentation was presented in a SUPER fast moving video on the grounds of a chateau and I was snap snap snapping away to get the best shot I can of this insanely gorgeous complete look. I HIGHLY suggest watching the full runway video as it’s definitely one of the best we’ve seen come from the new “digital fashion week” formats.
On this look in general, I continue to love Hedi Slimane’s Celine. It’s urban street style meets high glamour and each collection gets better and better!
CHANEL
Up till this point I haven’t really been on board with the cropped jacket trend. But give me one in a gorgeous fuschia with a Chanel belly chain and I’m singing a different tune! This color is so great I wish we saw more of it in the FW21 collection.
Dior
A delightful confection after several rather somber seasons from Dior.
DRIES VAN NOTEN
Sparkly red will never fail.
BALENCIAGA IN GUCCI
I’m admittedly stretching the rules with this inclusion, but Balenciaga joined in the Gucci FW21 collection in celebration of Gucci’s anniversary and this moment is far too cool not to include. Nevermind that it *technically* appeared long after PFW and Gucci usually appears on the Milan schedule. (But what are rules at this stage?)
HERMES
Only Hermes could make denim this polished.
JIL SANDER
From a collection that played mostly with neutrals, this cheerful tunic layered over a black jumpsuit emerged at Jil Sander like a shooting star!
LANVIN
I’m so excited about this new chapter for the house that there is not one but TWO appearances from Lanvin in this overview of the best PFW looks. To start, a feathered number that’s screaming for a cocktail party appearance this fall!
LANVIN
The second Lanvin look? A bedazzled little back dress that is anything but basic.
LOEWE
Jonathan Anderson’s use of color and shape at LOEWE has been such a joy over the last few seasons, but the FW21 collection proved he can play with a more modest color palette too. Oh gosh I hope this gown is destined for an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival or otherwise in the near future!
LOUIS VUITTON
The layering of this rather prim and feminine dress over a sporty undershirt works impressively well!
OTTOLINGER
For those cold winter mornings when you just can’t even… you now have a reason to try.
Paco Rabbane
Julien Dossena is really killing it at Paco Rabbane and the entire FW21 collection is pretty fantastic – as are both looks in this photo. The green, however, is ???
ROKH
Party on top, casual on the bottom.
SAINT LAURENT
Many complained the new YSL collection is too similar but I say — why can’t Anthony Vaccarello put a sexy spin on it for Saint Laurent? Especially when there’s purple involved.
SAINT LAURENT
From head to toe, this silver accentuated black sequined ensemble is spot on fabulous.
Schiaparelli
Daniel Roseberry is an all-star when it comes to delivering best PFW looks from Schiaparelli and the FW2021 collection played nicely off his INSANE SS21 couture collection. This overcoat is art in motion.
Stella McCartney
While this best PFW looks round-up is indeed tardy, it’s because fantastic collections like the latest from Stella have continued to roll out at a steady pace. And like so many, Stella McCartney is ready to get back to social events this fall and she’s bringing disco boots and a whole lot of color along with her!
