I don’t know about you but mascara is an item I truly feel naked without.
Have you ever made your way out into the world, caught your reflection and stopped dead in your tracks when you realized you somehow forgot to apply mascara before heading out the door?
Sure, it’s a relatively minor mishap but it’s one that bothers me enough that I’ve started carrying mascara with me in my handbag. This is something that has come in handy on multiple occasions and even won me a prize at Nordstrom beauty event as I was the only one in attendance to have mascara in my bag. *takes a bow*
Except we’re not here to talk about my love of mascara or how I feel like an alien without it.
No, today we’re here to discuss the Lancome Idole mascara — the newest addition to their iconic line of mascaras, a specialty of the brand. I thought we should take a closer look at it and see what Lancome is bringing to the table.

CURVED WAND- FOR FANNING LASHES
The Lancome Idole mascara has a plastic, curved wand that is designed to fan out lashes for a very eye-opening effect. The bristles of the applicator are pretty great at getting in there between lashes, to prevent clumping and stretch lashes to their outer limits. It’s quite remarkable how much height you can get with this wand!
SMOOTH, JET BLACK FORMULA
For the time being at least, Lancome’s Idole mascara is only available in a jet black formula. Compared to other mascaras in my collection that are designed to really thicken the lashes (i.e. Pat McGrath Dark Star), this formula is very smooth — which make it essentially a clump-free formula.
LENGTHENS LASHES
Without a doubt, this is a lengthening mascara and will stretch your lashes outward and upward. That fanned out claim of Lancome’s definitely holds true!
HOLDS A CURL
We’ve all been there before with a mascara that gave a great amount of curl to your lashes right when applied — only for them to fall flat as the day evolves. Happily, the Lancome Idole Mascara manages to keep that curl going strong even as the rest of your makeup might start to show wear and tear.
NO SMUDGING OR BLEEDING
While I’ve definitely enjoyed my share of Lancome mascaras through the years, I did run into an issue of them bleeding during humidity, a workout, etc. That’s not necessarily something they should outlast but either way, I’m glad to say the Idole mascara has been holding up like a gem all day — even through all the home workouts I’ve been doing!
VOLUMIZING?
Outright Lancome claimed the Idole mascara gives “intense volume” to your lashes. While I admit it does add some volume, the formula unfortunately isn’t quite as volumizing as I would have expected with that claim.

Overall Grade: B+
Well, ladies! This is a really nice mascara. I wish it added a little bit more volume to the lashes, but its smooth formula does allow for you to layer it up without fear of clumping — which is nice.
I also continue to be impressed with the lengthening effect of the Idole mascara and think it’s definitely the best in that department Lancome has offered to date.
