It’s tutorial time! Meet my simple everyday makeup look for summer — that’s so quick and easy, you’ll be out the door in a Flash.
If I’m being honest, I’ve always found ‘everyday makeup routines’ to be quite boring. While I have a morning routine of coffee and a standard breakfast of granola, coconut milk and berries – my makeup is something I’ve enjoyed mixing up on the daily. So it’s weird, that lately I’ve developed a standard makeup look that I turn to day in and day out. It all came together when I found the perfect foundation by Marc Jacobs and rediscovered my love of Stila‘s classic ‘In the Light’ palette. Cut to weeks later and I’m still routinely turning to this makeup look when throwing myself together in the morning.
Recently, I shared with you a lot of these makeup products when I did a little show and tell to share my current makeup favorites (see that post, here). Today, I want to walk you through just how I use them! It’s a light and fresh makeup look that’s perfect for summer and takes very little time…or skill. (Ha!)
Step 1: Marc Jacobs’ ‘Remarcable’ foundation is truly – perfect. It gives a flawless finish, that is virtually indestructible. Now that it’s summer and the humidity is HIGH — I really appreciate how will this foundation stays put. To apply, I use the applicator to place a dot on each cheek, my nose and forehead and then blend it all out with the Real Technique’s Expert face brush.
Step 2: Concealer! I’ve raved on about the NYX HD concealer enough here on Dream in Lace, so I’ll just say that I put this at each corner of my nose and under my eyes – then blend out once again with my Expert brush.
Step 3: The Marc Jacobs foundation honestly doesn’t need a setting powder, but I’ve been really loving this Ambient Strobe lighting powder from Hourglass lately. It gives a subtle glow to your complexion that’s really beautiful for the summertime. I use a powder brush to apply this on my cheeks and the center of my forehead. It’s the perfect fusion of powder and highlight!
Step 4: To prep my cheeks, I turn to my favorite bronzer by Estee Lauder. I use a blending brush in a ‘three’ motion to warm up my face. Then, I reach for my favorite blush palette of the moment by Tarte! ‘Dream’ is the shade I’ve been gravitating to most lately, but they’re all great.
Step 5: I’ve been going old school lately on my eyes. That means, I’ve been turning to these cream eyeshadow quads from Revlon that I used to use ALL the time. I mainly use them as a base, but you could use them on their own if you like. They do really well as a base though, keeping your shadow in place all day. I just brush a neutral brown across my lid with my finger and that’s it!
Step 6: Continuing with the old school streak, I dug my ‘In the Light’ palette from Stila out recently and haven’t been able to stop using it. In general, I love all the shadows. Kitten and Bubbly are great for glittering gold eyes. But I’ve been super BASIC lately and just brushing the brown satin shade ‘Sunset’ all across my lid with a MAC 217 brush. I then sweep some along my lower lash line with a MAC 239. It honestly doesn’t get any simpler than that.
Step 7: For eyeliner, I’ve also been using my Stila palette….with the smudge-stick that comes with it. Honestly, this palette is quite old and I’m pretty amazed how the liner still works like a charm. It’s great on the top and lower lash lines, smudged out with my finger or a pencil brush. Easy!
Step 8: Next step? Mascara. I’ve fallen back in love with Dior’s Iconic Overcurl mascara. I just can’t get enough of how much it lengthens my eyelashes and holds a curl all day long…it also doesn’t smudge or even sweat off. (Which in this heat, is a must!)
Step 9: Lastly, my lipstick! I’ve always been a fan of YSL’s Rouge Volupte Shines in the summertime and this summer I’ve fallen head over heals for the new oil formula. It takes what was already an amazing summer lipstick and makes it only that much better. The oil is soft, moisturizing and actually soothing on the lips. I’ve been wearing shade 51 ‘Rose Saharienne’ – which is the perfect everyday pink. It’s actually so perfect that I keep it on standby in my handbag to have on hand…at all times.
And that’s it! Totally simple, right?
I can hardly believe how fixated I’ve become with this makeup look, but all of the products are truly perfect and I enjoy using them together. It also does give me more time to savor my morning coffee and linger on a YouTube video or two while getting ready. If you’d like to learn more about my ‘routines’, let me know!
On that note, I wish everyone a terrific week and I’d love to hear what you’re go-to makeup look is for summer. Particularly, what is your go-to summer foundation? I’m always eager to learn what others are using to combat the heat and humidity without their whole face melting off.
Thanks so much for reading and I’ll be back on Wednesday with a new post 🙂
