From industry insiders to fashion trends and red carpet styling, meet the best fashion podcasts every fashionista should subscribe to for stylish listening on-the-go.
As they say, what goes around comes around and that definitely applies to our listening habits as well. Sure! We might not be perched beside a radio listening to fireside chats with FDR or Little Orphan Annie, but in the digital age talk radio has taken on a new meaning in the way of podcasts.
What’s particularly great about the art of podcasting is these free episodes are accessible around the globe instantaneously. They also connect audiences on every topic under the sun, accompanying listeners on their daily commute, as easy listening while tidying things up at home or as a way to pass the time whilst hitting the pavement on their daily run.
The truth is, there’s no rules to how, when or where one can listen to a podcast same as there are no rules getting in the way of anyone with a microphone and an internet connection from starting one.
The Best Fashion Podcasts for Fashionistas
It likely comes as no surprise that a number of fashion-oriented podcasts have emerged on the scene in recent history.
Stylists, publicists, designers and industry insiders alike all have the power to hit the record button, leading conversations on everything facing the fashion scene today. Some podcasts seek to educate, offering insight on fashion history. Others seek to push the boundaries, addressing some of the biggest challenges and controversies facing the industry today. Others offer good ole’ classic fun, gossiping about the latest fashion news, breaking down fashion week and weighing in on the best and worst looks of the latest major red carpet event.
For those fashionable listeners looking to fill their headspace with discussions on all things sartorial, allow me to introduce you to the best fashion podcasts in my inbox at the moment. This list covers a broad range of topics, from careers and behind-the-scenes intel to classic good fun gossip – there’s something for all fashionistas, no matter what you’re in the mood for. Happy listening!
Business of Fashion Podcast (iTunes, Spotify)
As the name suggests, the Business of Fashion podcast discusses – topics surrounding the business of fashion. From industry trends and challenges throughout the pandemic and struggling economy to the push for sustainability and how designers are evolving in the digital age — this podcast really covers it all. My favorite episodes are when specific designers, i.e. the iconic Dries Van Noten, join in to share their personal experiences whilst navigating the ever-evolving fashion industry.
Dressed: The History of Fashion Podcast (iHeart Radio)
Cassidy Zachary and April Calahan’s iHeartRadio series is definitely one of the best fashion podcasts to subscribe to and is quite possibly the most famous. Whether you’re a devout fashionista with extensive knowledge already or a newer style maven with a growing interest in fashion, Dressed: The History of Fashion podcast is one you can definitely gleam a lot from! I like that this podcast not only discusses the past, but also isn’t afraid to approach difficult discussions on issues facing us today.
The Fashion Forward Friends Podcast (iTunes, Spotify)
*toot toot* Obviously I couldn’t assemble a list of the best fashion podcasts to subscribe to without mentioning the one I speak on! The Fashion Forward Friends podcast launched this summer with myself and fellow fashion blogger Thomas Monks engaging in lively discussions on all things fashion! From fashion week breakdowns to red carpet stylings and gossip on creative director shake-ups we’d like to see (hello, DIOR!!), each episode features a fun and opinionated conversation between friends that fashionable listeners everywhere will enjoy.
So – What Do You Do Again? Podcast (iTunes, Spotify)
Associate Market Editor Naomi Elizee of Vogue launched this very topical podcast to discuss the journeys of women of color in the fashion industry. So, What Do You Do Again? episodes feature a wide-range of guests, from top models like Precious Lee to celebrity stylists and brand directors. Episodes range from 45 minutes to an hour and all offer some wonderful food-for-thought that any female or entrepreneur would enjoy.
The Memory Of… With John Galliano Podcast (iTunes, Spotify)
No question, John Galliano is one of the most influential visionaries in the modern era of fashion. And so, inevitably — when Maison Margiela sets him in front of a microphone it’s easy to understand why it would become one of the best fashion podcasts of today. The Memory Of gives listeners an inside perspective on how Galliano approaches his work as creative director of Margiela, both in developing ready-to-wear and haute couture. In each episode, Galliano himself leads insightful discussions on the inspirations and intentions behind his masterful designs.
Too Many Clothes and Nothing to Wear Podcast (iTunes and Spotify)
Not entirely sure if a season two is on its way, but the first season of the Too Many Clothes and Nothing to Wear podcast included eight highly relevant episodes. The series tackled pressing issues like the immediate need to change the industry in order to save the planet as well as the psychology behind our need to always want more, more, more. The podcasts aims to help listeners shift their mindset, reframe their relationship with fashion and adopt a more conscious approach to their wardrobe.
Leave Your Mark Podcast (iTunes, Spotify)
While technically I suppose the Leave Your Mark podcast is more focused on professional development, it was founded by leading fashion publicist Aliza Licht and therefore has earned itself an honorary spot on my list of the best fashion podcasts. In the weekly series, Aliza invites a variety of successful female guests for discussions on how they forged their own career path — many of whom have done so working in fashion.
Fashion No Filter (iTunes, Spotify)
Giving a behind-the-scenes look at how the fashion industry operates, journalists Camille Charriere and Monica Ainley launched the Fashion No Filter podcast in 2017 and have been leading unfiltered and opinionated discussions since. In addition to seasonal trends and the near constant fashion calendar, the podcast also delves into important issues like race and sustainability.
