The Schiaparelli Spring 2018 Couture collection hits the runways of Paris Fashion Week, featuring an array of unique red-carpet-ready gowns!
Couture week is back, my favorite biannual fashion tradition! Oh sure, New York Fashion Week and the ready-to-wear collections of London and Milan are fun…but nothing competes with the luxury, craftsmanship and design of haute couture.
To celebrate, I wanted to direct your attention to the Schiaparelli Spring 2018 Couture collection!
Pagan Infused Couture
Always designing with Elsa Schiaparelli in mind, this season creative director Bertrand Guyon paid tribute to Elsa’s fascination with pagan culture. Calling upon natural materials, he brought to life a sensual 43-look collection that artfully blends Elizabethean era themes with Mediterranean imagery. The collection features hand-painted motifs, lines of poetry infused in linen, 3D prints, colorful silk chiffon, feathers and of course – dramatic drapery. (Just to name a few details..)
Amidst the backdrop of gloomy winter, this spring couture collection is a treat for the eyes and definitely makes me long for warmer days ahead. Obviously, red-carpet-ready gowns are a focal point of the collection…but I’m particularly enamored with the daytime looks.
Colorful shorts are paired with embellished overcoats – at times with the added flare of a fringed trim. It’s a fun change of pace from the sundresses we commonly see in spring collections and introduces a new silhouette to the stage.

What a Start to Couture Week!
