At last, the holiday season is upon us! Take a peek inside the Tarte Holiday Treasure Box gift set.
Is it the gift of your dreams?
Hello, November!! With Halloween now firmly in the rear-view mirror, it’s safe to say I am EXCITED for the holiday season ahead. Thanksgiving. Christmas decorations. Endless watching of holiday movies on Hallmark. Hot toddies. I’m there!
In fact, it wasn’t even 24 hours after Halloween when I pressed play on my first holiday movie of the season. (Note, Why Him has a great cast…but isn’t all that entertaining. Sadly!) I’m also itching to break into my festive decor and start wearing as much glitz and sparkle for the season that I can get my hands on.
What can I say? It’s truly the best time of the year and I’m HERE for celebrating as long as I can!
Meet the Tarte Holiday Treasure Box
Now that I feel I can safely fully embrace the holiday season – I’m excited to spill the beans on the Tarte Holiday Treasure Box gift set that I’ve been using virtually nonstop since it picked it up in September. That’s right. I’ve been using this bad boy religiously for over a month and I’m here to report: it’s good. In fact, it’s really really good.
Last year, one of my most popular posts was on the 2016 Tarte Holiday gift set (here) and when Tarte released pictures of this beauty – I was on top of it. Seriously, it took real effort to maintain a reasonable speed while pulling into Sephora.
Included in the Tarte Holiday Treasure Box gift set you will find:
- 24 Eyeshadows (Ranging from Matte Neutrals to Deep Shimmers)
- Two Large Amazonian Clay Blushes (Carnation Pink and Watermelon Pink)
- Two Large Amazonian Clay Bronzers (Matte Bronze and Bronze Luster)
- One Amazonian Clay Highlighter in Wanderlust (Light Champagne)
- One Full-Size Sex Kitten Eyeliner
- One Deluxe Sample of Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara
- Deluxe Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Grand (Deep Rose)
Total Value: Tarte’s Treasure Box gift set is valued at $433. Wow!
Price: For a holiday steal, you can pick this beauty up for only $59.
A Treasure Box of Goodies
Obviously there is A LOT of makeup to discuss in the Tarte Holiday Treasure Box. It’s basically a massive eyeshadow, blush and contour palette rolled into one – with mascara, a lippie and full-sized liner to boot. What’s not to love?
While there is so much to see, I know you’re probably most excited to take a closer look at the eyeshadows (I know I was) – so let’s start off with those. There are 24 shades in total!
Tarte Holiday Treasure Box – Eyeshadows
After purchasing the Tarte 2016 holiday gift set, one area I was really hoping for improvement on was the eyeshadows. While the color selection of the 2016 palette was beautiful, I found the shadows were dryer than the average Tarte Amazonian Clay formula and didn’t last as long as favorites from say the In Bloom palette.
As you can see, there is a big color selection included in the palette. Included you’ll find rich ambers, bronze, golds, deep browns, your smokier grays and even a navy. Of course, there’s also a nice matte white (Globe) and neutrals for easy blending and neutralizing your eyelid when starting off your makeup look.
Tarte Holiday Treasure Box – Eyeshadow Swatches
The first twelve eyeshadows in the Tarte Holiday Treasure Box are definitely more warm toned and pack a lot of pigment!
The color selection is beautiful for creating warm, glowing makeup looks that will be festive and beautiful at your holiday celebrations and parties. They also make some generally awesome makeup looks for the autumn months and have garnered me more than one compliment over the last five weeks or so.
Tarte Holiday Treasure Box – Eyeshadow Swatches Part 2
Switching gears from the warmer shades up top, the last twelve eyeshadows of the palette are much more cool-toned. Personally, I really love mixing both warm/cool eyeshadows when crafting my daily makeup looks and the variety of undertones is a nice perk!
How Pigmented Are the Shadows?
The eyeshadows are highly pigmented!! Swatching these for pictures, I truthfully got a little bit giddy. I mean, they’re so beautiful and put me in the holiday spirit.
How Long Do the Shadows Last?
I’m very happy to report that the shorter wear time I struggled with in the Tarte Holiday 2016 palette has been corrected. These shadows are consistent with Tarte’s other palettes and last nicely on my eyes (without any touch ups) through a long workday.
What Is the Finish of the Shadows?
There’s an evenly matched mix of creamy mattes and rich shimmer shadows – making the Treasure Box a total dream for doing your makeup every morning. I have a lot of fun mixing and matching these shadows every morning to come up with countless looks! Even after a month, I feel like there’s many more looks I can explore with these beauties.
Onto the Blushes and Bronzers We Go!
Tucked inside the Tarte Treasure Box, you will find two large-pan blushes! Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blushes have a pretty strong reputation in the beauty community and do claim to wear for 12-hours. While I do think they last long, I’m not sure they’re that long-lasting (however).
Perk Amazonian Clay Blush
A matte, carnation pink blush. I’m pretty pale so this blush does work for me – but unfortunately, I don’t think it will for darker skintones. I *wish* they skipped this shade altogether and went with something much more rosy for the holiday season. It would have more coloration for varied skintones and fit into the whole ‘rosy cheeks’ vibes of the Christmas season.
Wish Amazonian Clay Blush
A matte, watermelon pink that definitely has more kick to it than Perk. Definitely my favorite of the two!
Wanderlust Highlighter
In general, Tarte’s highlighters have never been one to blow me (or likely anyone) away as they’re much more subtle. Wanderlust is a light champagne color that I find works BEST when applied with your hands. I know, I know…that sounds kind of weird but with a brush you don’t seem to be able to build this as nicely for glow. When I use my fingers, I get much better payoff.
Navigate Bronzer
A matte bronzer that’s suited best for lighter skintones.
Excursion Bronzer
A deeper, almost golden bronzer, threaded with shimmer. If you have a darker skintone and would like to contour, I think you could cool this down using Navigate to create a more matte shadow.
Overall Thoughts?
As I said out the gate, I do really LOVE the Tarte Holiday Treasure Box set and have been using this just about non-stop for the past several weeks. It’s a palette I find myself reaching for far into the future as the eyeshadows are a dream and the face products suit me nicely. It’s a very thorough gift set that I’ll get a lot of use from and highly recommend!
The Sex Kitten eyeliner is seriously an un-sung hero from Tarte as well! This waterproof eyeliner is jet black, long-lasting and packs a lot of pigment. Why more people aren’t singing its praises is beyond me…because I’m sold for life now and will definitely be purchasing again and again. The box includes a full-sized liner…valued at $20, making up virtually half the price of the gift set as a whole.
Pros of the Tarte Holiday Treasure Box
- Fantastic value for the price! Cannot believe all of this is only $59.
- Available for purchase both at Sephora and on Tarte‘s website, making it reasonably easy to find.
- Eyeshadows: Richly pigmented, long-lasting with an outstanding color selection.
- Sex Kitten Eyeliner is ground-breaking. Stays put – even in your waterline!
- 100% cruelty-free.
- Highly Wearable! You’ll definitely get a lot of use out of this gift set.
- Includes a full-sized Sex Kitten eyeliner that is amazing!
Cons of the Treasure Box
- Blushes and Bronzers suited best for light skintones. Darker skintones won’t get as much value from those.
- Highlighter has weak pigmentation and doesn’t transfer well on brushes.
- A minor thing, but I do wish the liquid lipstick was a more festive red or pink.
