Being a girl who thrives on positive and creative energy, sometimes the negativity around me can be really draining! And that’s what life has been like the past month or so, making it difficult to keep the eye on the prize. Not that I need a prize…because honestly, a positive outlook is good enough for me. And where yoga, long autumn walks, Cabernet, candy corn, Spotify and Netflix have come to the rescue – so did one of my all time favorite films, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. Romy and Michele are basically the ultimate champions of thinking positive. If you’ve not yet seen this film, I honestly don’t know what you’ve been doing with your life. To me it’s even more relevant, real, and witty than Mean Girls, (Chew on that!) and in serious need of a sequel.
These girls have everything. From diet and exercise tips, to fashion, life goals and seriously good (bad) dance moves. But what makes Romy and Michele so irresistible is their ‘We don’t give a flying f*ck what you think’ attitude. There’s real courage in being an original. Blending into the crowd is oh so easy. Standing up and doing your own thing, even if it makes everyone around you think you’re insane? Not so easily done.
And so today, I thought it would be nice to just revel in the greatness of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion through GIFs. Because, why the heck not? I may not have invented post-its – but I do have a phone and the ability to feel good about myself, even in the face of adversity. Let’s go!
See above: Me, every single day of my life.
I know gummy bears, jelly beans and candy corns don’t make a good diet – but sometimes I will go a week on just gummy bears, jelly beans and candy corns. (Especially candy corn.)
I have little interest in ever attending a high school reunion, and so I do identify with the awesome Heather Mooney. Not that high school was an especially bad time for me, I just really never felt a connection to my fellow classmates outside of a short few. Thus, I really don’t much care what’s been happening to the masses. Besides, that’s what Facebook’s for right?
I’m not saying mono is the best diet ever. I’m just saying, if you happened to get mono…it wouldn’t be the worst thing ever 😉
Recently I shared a confession about my time working in a Halloween store (here). Aka, the worst job of my life. Sometimes, we have to do things we loathe for the sake of a paycheck. Then again, sometimes -it’s not bad to have standards. Right, Michele?
Because sometimes we do all act like a baby. And when we do, it’s nice to have someone around to tell you to: stop being such a baby.
There’s a handful of people I suspect do get sick pleasure from torturing other people. Those of us who don’t, should really speak up about it more.
Since graduating college and joining the workforce, probably the most crushing reality has been: there is no such thing as a ‘business woman’s special’. #Fail (Seriously, can this please become a thing?!)
Heather Mooney is basically, 100%, my spirit animal. ‘Nuff said.
I second Michele: And, yea!
Who cares if someone mean, spiteful with an ugly heart doesn’t like you? In fact, if that person doesn’t like you…it probably means you’re doing something right!
Yes, you have complete permission to compliment yourself and look super super cute. Feeling good, is looking good.
Besides, you do look good. Right Michele?
I honestly hope you NEVER feel beat down by the people around you, but should you ever: Romy and Michele are your best friends. (And me, I’m always here cheering you along!) Always be yourself and live life on your own terms. After all, we’re not here to impress other people. We’re here to enjoy life and not take everything so seriously all the d*mn time. Those people obviously need to, just..like…lighten up! 😉
Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion is on Netflix! Meaning, we can turn to them for life’s greatest wisdom any darn time we want.
