If you’re a makeup addict like me, you likely have 10 foundations (at least) in heavy rotation on your face. But when the scorching hot temperatures and steamy humidity of summer arrive, sometimes you need to take a step back.
Answering my skin’s call for a lighter option, I’ve been testing out two BB cream products over the last several weeks and am ready to report with my findings! First up? The Catrice BB Cream that clocks in at a remarkable price of just $10. Always appreciative of a good deal and a new affordable makeup brand, I snatched a tube of Catrice “Ciean ID” Hydro BB Cream from Ulta.
In addition to being extremely affordable, the Catrice BB Cream is formulated with 99% naturally derived ingredients. It’s also a certified cruelty-free and vegan product!
While I hadn’t heard anything about the BB Cream before, I was intrigued by all the boxes it manages to tick off. I’ve putting this to the test for two weeks now and am ready to report my findings!

How Many Shades Are There? Seven
There are currently seven shades of the Catrice BB cream available — which is decent but definitely leaves room for improvement.
- 005 Fair Neutral
- 010 Light
- 015 Light Warm
- 020 Medium
- 030 Warm
- 040 Tan Warm
- 050 Dark Warm
Light and Breathable Coverage
The Catrice BB Cream has light coverage that nicely evens out your skintone while letting your skin breathe.
It is a not a full-coverage product that will completely cover dark spots, freckles and blemishes — but it does work well hand in hand with a full-coverage concealer to target specific areas.
Shea Butter and Squalane Care for the Skin
In addition to providing you with lightweight coverage that works well in the summer months, the BB Cream contains Shea Butter to nourish and hydrate your skin. Shea Butter is also effective at healing blemishes and reducing inflammation.
The BB Cream also includes squalane, an ingredient that helps fade dark spots and improve your skin’s texture.
How to Apply
I applied the Catrice BB Cream with my a beauty sponge, blending brush and my plain hands while testing this out. Ultimately I found that for the most amount of coverage, using a brush is best. But the product does apply smoothly across the skin no matter what method you use.
How Well Does the BB Cream Hold Up?
I have combination skin and am really picky about products that get increasingly greasy as the day wears on. They make me feel uncomfortable in my own skin and have me racing to wash my face as soon as I get home in the evening.
Fortunately, I didn’t run into that problem with the Catrice BB Cream but when I reviewed others take on the product – it seems not everyone shares the same experience. While the product continued held up for me through extreme heat, humidity and even workouts… reviews seem to be mixed with some reporting that it does get greasy on their skin throughout the day.
I recommend using this with a setting powder for best results!
Contains No SPF
While I already wear a dedicated SPF 50 on my face each day, it’s worth noting that Catrice’s BB Cream does not contain and SPF if you’re looking for extra coverage. This isn’t something I find to be a necessity in a makeup base but it is always appreciated as the more protection our skin gets from the sun, the better!
Where To Purchase
Currently Catrice products are available from Amazon, CatriceCosmetics.com as well as Ulta.
Catrice’s website has a convenient store locator where you can enter your zip code to locate the nearest store that carries their products if you prefer to shop in person.

Overall Grade: B+
All in all, I’ve been very much enjoying this product! I even find myself reaching for it by instinct every morning now over my foundation as well as much more expensive options. It’s very comfortable on the skin and is formulated with products that address some of my top skincare concerns (i.e. dark spots, texture and hydration balance) while simultaneously providing me with just the right amount of coverage for the summer heat.
I’m also in general excited discover more products from Catrice as they have a complete line of skincare and makeup available with everything very affordably priced! Their foundation is catching A LOT of buzz at the moment, but I’m also really intrigued by their skincare products (especially this depuffing eye serum).
