One great thing about 2020? The year has prompted me to seek out new brands on all levels.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, I sought to “shop small” wherever I could. Likewise, the current movement against racism has introduced me to some black-owned beauty brands I had not known about before. Oh sure, you all know I’m a longtime fan of Pat McGrath Labs and of course Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty, but I wanted to go further.
A Juvia’s Place Review for Summer
On a recent dig around the internet, I landed upon a STUNNING eyeshadow palette from Juvia’s Place and I knew I had to have it.
The cruelty-free and black-owned brand celebrates women of all colors and I found myself hitting *submit* on an order faster than I can recite the alphabet. In my cart? The eyeshadow palette (obviously), two gorgeous blushes, a blending face brush and a cream stick foundation that I picked out to be a bronzer/contour during these summer months.
In event the brand is new to you as well, I thought I’d do a collective Juvia’s Place review for you on everything I got! This way you can get a broad overview of what the cruelty-free brand has to offer and maybe something will catch your eye.

The Nubian Eyeshadow Palette
Obviously I’m going to kick-start this Juvia’s Place review off by discussing the GORGEOUS Nubian eyeshadow palette. After all, eyeshadow is my #1 weakness when it comes to makeup.
In reality, this palette has been around for a couple of years already and I’m actually bummed I didn’t discover it until now as it’s frickin’ amazing! The palette includes a variety of orange and copper tones that are spot on perfect for the summer month! To boot? For $20, you get 12 full-pan shadows of a quality that rivals some of my most beloved luxury palettes at a fraction of the price.
Tucked inside the Juvia’s Place Nubian Eyeshadow Palette you will find:
- 4 Transitional Matte Shades
- 8 Shimmery Pearl Textured Shadows
Nubian Eyeshadow Palette
Powerful Pigment:
As you can see in the swatches, the shadows included in the Nubian power are P-I-G-M-E-N-T-E-D. Absolutely stunning!
Soft Texture:
With a soft texture, these shadows remind me quite a bit of the Tati Beauty palette — and that’s a good thing. They have a bit of kick back that you might want to tap off before applying, but ooo do they blend so nicely!
Long-Lasting:
Of course, wear time is incredibly important. I’m happy to say that these shadows wear beautifully throughout the day – even during high heat and humidity.
Packaging:
One drawback of the palette is it doesn’t include a mirror. This is definitely something that would affect the price of the palette so I imagine they made the decision to skip a mirror to keep the price at $20, but it’s worth mentioning. The blushes DO have a mirror included, though, so that’s what I use when applying my eyeshadow.
The Blush Bundle
Shopping on the Juvia’s Place website, I noticed that several of the individual blushes were out of stock but WERE available in a bundle. While the bundle doesn’t actually save you any money, it was a good work around to be able to get my hands on some of the gorgeous blushes as well as try out one of their brushes. I’m currently in the process of overhauling my makeup brush collection so any new discover was appreciated!
The bundle I got included the:
- Bella Blush: Matte Deep Coral
- Serafina Blush: Matte Rose Pink
- Blending Brush: Face Blending Brush
It’s worth noting, the blushes are in stock individually at Ulta as well as for $2 less. Where the JP site charges $10 each, Ulta is charging $8. A nifty discovery!!
Anyway, this is a Juvia’s Place review so pricing aside — let’s discuss how the blushes worked:
- Boldly pigmented
- Soft, smooth formula
- Beautiful packaging that includes a mirror
- Vivid color selection that will work for a wide range of skintones, not for the faint at heart!
- Blend moderately well. Use a light hand for best results!
- Long-lasting
The Cream Foundation Stick
Last by not least in my first Juvia’s Place review? The cream foundation stick! Offered in 30 shades with mixed undertones, this is a very inclusive product that will work for women of all colors. Having tried so many foundations out lately, I decided to do something a little bit different and pick up a darker shade for me to be used as a a cream contour and bronzer.
And…wow. I’m obsessed with it! The stick’s consistency reminds me a good deal of the ColourPop sticks that I fell in love with earlier this year. Very smooth application that blends like a dream and stays put all day. Now, I can’t say how this wears all over the face as I’ve only worn it as bronzer — but upon some digging, it seems that reviews are largely favorable for this as a foundation as well. Good stuff!
The Rundown:
- 30 shades available in the collection with varying undertones for women of all colors
- Formulated with shea butter to nourish the skin and create a smooth/creamy texture
- Radiant finish
- Medium coverage
- Will transfer onto clothes, so be careful! x
