The new Elf Christian Siriano makeup collection is the latest in a long line of beauty x designer collaborations. Is it worth your time:?
I’m going to be honest here, I picked up the new Elf Christian Siriano makeup collection several weeks ago. And, for several weeks, there they remained in their cardboard box. As beautiful as it is, my addiction to the Urban Decay Born to Run palette was simply too strong to sway me into trying something else – no matter how beautiful the packaging and color selection may be.
But with New York Fashion Week on the horizon, this week I finally dug into the products and put everything to the test.
The ELF Christian Siriano Collaboration
These days it seems a new collaboration between a makeup line and a famous designer springs up just about every month (at least).
One that completely flew over my radar though? This one. It wasn’t until I found myself on ELF’s website ordering another HD translucent powder (I’m addicted to the stuff) that I learned this collab was even a thing. Shame on me for being so clueless, apparently.
Who knows, perhaps I’m cloud out on the marketing plan for it…but generally the partnership seems to be flying low on the radar.
Included in the Elf Christian Siriano makeup collaboration, you’ll find:
- A seven-shadow eyeshadow palette with a variety of textures and bold shades
- Pink tinted lip oil
- Hot pink matte liquid lipstick
- Makeup bag
Being a former IPSY subscriber, I have more makeup bags than I’ll ever know what to do with so I took a pass on that. Makeup-wise, the eyeshadow and lippies were simply too pretty to pass up.
The Christian Siriano eyeshadow palette includes a nice mix of subtle and vibrant shades to craft a variety of eyeshadow looks. Similar to the floral design of the packaging, the eyeshadow palette was inspired by a bouquet of flowers with splashes of fun color and scaled back neutrals. The champagne gold is beautiful worn all over the lid with pops of color in the crease and lower lash line.
Texture wise, things are mixed. There is a matte Burgundy, black and cream-toned shadow – intermixed with flashy shimmers like a green, blue and highlighting white.
Pigmentation-wise? I’m pretty impressed. The shadows definitely perform better on the eyes themselves but even swatched I think you can see they back quite a bit of color.
The palette is beautifully designed with a full-sized mirror inside. For $12, I think. Elf and Christian Siriano are definitely delivering and customers are getting a product that’s well worth the money.
Fallout: The ONE complaint I have is fallout. These shadows do have a lot of pigment and if you’re not careful, the fallout will make a mess. To be safe, I recommend double tapping your brush before going in to apply color.
Moving Onto the Lippies!
No doubt, the absolute last thing I need is another liquid lipstick or lip gloss…but these Elf Christian Siriano beauties were too hard to pass up.
For one, I’m a sucker for the packaging. Two, I’m always here for a vibrant pink and the lip oil sounded too comforting to ignore.
Something Christian Siriano and I share in common? A love for bright, colorful lip. Enriched with Vitamin E, the liquid lipstick adds not just a fun splash of color to your makeup look…but nourishing elements as well.
For me, I’m always wary of a liquid lipstick. Sometimes they’re great, other times they’re like vampires and suck the life out of me. Fortunately, the Christian Siriano lipstick falls in line with the later. It dries down to a nice, solid matte and nicely avoids settling into the lines of your lips.
I’m just going to come right out and say it: I’m IN LOVE with this lip oil. I’m wearing it now. I’ve been wearing it all week. It’s just so dang satisfying! The wash of pink is gives a beautiful sheen to the lips without being over powering and the formula is like butter.
If you’re feeling extra fancy, I also recommend wearing this over the liquid lipstick. Worn together you get almost a holographic type look that’s very striking and would be a lot of fun for a party.
I sincerely don’t know why I’m not hearing more about the ELF Christian Siriano makeup collaboration, because it’s honestly one of my favorite designer/beauty collabs I’ve seen. Remember when L’Oreal and Balmain partnered up last year and it was the biggest miss of the year? Well, this partnership is basically the exact opposite of that mess.
ELF brings to the table their great (and affordable) formulas, while Christian Siriano delivers on a stunning packaging design and a beautiful spectrum of colors.
Cruelty Free AND Vegan
As if I didn’t have enough positive things to say about the collab (obviously), the ELF x Christian Siriano makeup collection is also certified cruelty free and vegan. Winning!
