It would not be Couture Week without a triumphant new collection’s debut from Armani Prive – and Fall 2016 haute couture did not disappoint.
Happy Thursday, you beautiful dreamer. I hope you’re having a terrific week. For me, it’s been a lot of ‘go go go’ – juggling a full work schedule amidst all the major couture week happenings. It’s one of those busy times of the year when I run on motivation far more than sleep, driven by my love of fashion and sharing it with the world. I believe it was in Jr. High when a teacher once recommended always having a passion project. Well, I’ve most definitely discovered mine. Think of me as your fashion BFF. Following the latest collections for you – always reporting back.
As couture week starts to wind down in Paris, I now want to direct your attention to Armani Prive. It’s been a minute since we’ve discussed an Armani collection here on Dream in Lace. In fact, I dug through the archives and discovered I haven’t featured Armani since the Spring 2015 couture collection (here), which was essentially a lifetime ago in fashion years. Thus, today I want to break the silence on Armani to discuss their Fall 2016 haute couture collection and all of its pristine elegance.
For Fall 2016 haute couture, Armani Prive put to rest the more vivid blue and purple tones of recent collections in favor of a monochrome palette, infused with splashes of soft pink. The signature Armani pantsuits are as elegant as ever, with the addition of a fun harem style pant that redefines the classic silhouette as slightly more relaxed.
There’s something undeniably cool about the Armani woman. She’s perfectly elegant and gracious, yet has a sprinkle of attitude that you wouldn’t want to cross. She’s smart and maybe a little cunning. With Cate Blanchett as a favorite muse, it’s easy to see where Giorgio Armani can draw inspiration as he designs with such poise and intelligence. Ms. Blanchett herself was in attendance at Tuesday’s show and no doubt taking notes on looks for future red carpet appearances. That’s one fashion partnership I hope will never end.
As for Armani Prive’s Fall 2016 collection in particular, Armani had fun playing with geometric prints. See the edgy star-studded trousers and a skirt of mod graphic circles that looks as though it walked straight off 5th Avenue. Velvet also takes center stage with rich black velvet skirts, trousers and even a full-skirted ballgown. Fancy!
The black velvet ballgown itself is so spectacular it could have closed the show, but Armani led the finale with a striking shimmering black evening gown dripping with pearls. That closing look in particular screams Auntie Mame to me, which takes me back to simpler days of eating ice cream on the couch watching old VHS tapes from my Grandma. (Those were the days!)
Suffice to say, Armani Prive still holds a special space in my heart and the Fall 2016 collection brought grace and sophistication to the couture runways that’s hard to rival. Eyes on you Ms. Blanchett to work it on the red carpet!
